  • check if stronglight is iso or jis as well. [google, its not a visible difference!].

It's visible if you know what you're looking for.

  • I always wear gloves, not sure if that makes a difference...

Yeah I wear mitts and sometimes no gloves, I think sweat does bad things to bike bits. I've had a couple sets of soft touch and neither lasted more than 1000 miles. Friends have found the same and at points all our handlebars were covered in leccy tape to hold the bastard stuff together.

My LBS doesn't stock it any more because (in their words) "It looks great for two months then disintegrates". It wears on the tops behind the hoods 1st.

  • microtex soft touch is only any good if you're a bike tart and don't get any miles in. It'll be perfect for all your HHSBs. :D

Regular microtex will last five times the mileage.

Exciting plans – best of luck. Can I ask what rims did you choose for your wheel build Jammy?

They're Velocity A23s. Not the strongest, but I wanted something light and that little bit wider...

  • Or not set-up properly frankly.

    How so?

^ the logic being if you're relying on your tape to provide the comfort on your handle bars then they are in the wrong place. The reason for the discomfort is there is too much pressure on your hands.

I've found the newbaums cloth bar tape surprisingly comfortable (albeit on north road style bars).

I just don't think the normal fizik is either that grippy or comfortable. It maybe hard wearing and have a slim line "pro-look" and lots of colours, but I don't think it's necessarily the be-all of tapes people on here make out. Still I've used it on most of my bikes.

That said tape's a personal thing, you often hear people saying they couldn't care less.

One thing I did with fizik was to wrap the bar in a cut up innertube (wrap in upwards facing electrical tape to make it stick without overlap). It kept them slim, but gave that little bit of road vibration reduction.

I also liked the Mavic tape, very good for the money.

  • My modern rando Crosscheck is all buttoned up. 10.8kg, full bike (minus handlebar bag) Pretty pleased!

Nice. Looks very fit for purpose.

  • I feel you.

And ^^ that would be too big for someone 6ft. You'd need to be 6ft4+ for that bike

I have those dimensions (except the Gara has fatter tubes so doesn't look bigger even though it is.)

    Gara = 66cm c-t, 86cm bb to saddle.

That Gara is very nice! Where can one get such or similar frames? Big Bike + OS tubing = BBB, have to remember that.

  • bonerib?

I've been looking forward to slam/flipdatstem for a while...

    he's talking about the corima

  • Still a lot to come for this project

This one is custom. I suggest emailing Dodici if you are serious. They are very helpful. I was talking to them a while ago but put the whole thing on the back-burner; a good thing, as this frame came up in classifieds.

How much did the frame cost

Top work, seeing this is forcing me to finish my Raleigh Royal today.

  • JAMMY. really like your build...... can i ask how you find the gear set up? is it a single 52 chainwheel? 10 speed on the rear? chain ever come off? i'm just asking, as i run 1x10, have had no problems so far. know some people would not advise this without a bash guard and deda dog fang.

  • ^ the logic being if you're relying on your tape to provide the comfort on your handle bars then they are in the wrong place. The reason for the discomfort is there is too much pressure on your hands.

    Very much so.

It could be that the reach is a little too long, the saddle nose tilted down a little (rather than level or slightly up). or even the bar not completely levelled.

Have a good look at your position before spending more money.

  • Have had no problems so far. know some people would not advise this without a bash guard and deda dog fang.

    That because people are idiot.

(unless they're referring to an MTB).

    Can I have this...

  • (unless they're referring to an MTB).

what about london roads? at times its like riding off road.

  • It is in South London.

Pretty sure my hands are aching from trying to hold on to a hood position that is not really there, never blamed it on the tape, just don't really like the tape.

  • Given your forum name, that position sound about right for you.

You ride a HHSB, embrace the pain of looking like a ship figurehead.

  • HHSB till I die.

  • JensLP that looks like its gonna turn out very nice!

What bars are you gonna use?

And first dibs if you find you don't like it! ;)

    Cheers!

I'm running 48 on the front and 11-28 on the back. A little on the quick side, but I'm having no problems with the chain coming off. Chances are I'm going to put a front mech and a double on it at some point... but it's fine for now.

  • @maddy: around 250 pounds, I reckon

@barney: you could have had it. I bought it through this forum. The seller delivered it to some family of mine in Surbiton. I picked it up a few months ago and brought it back to Copenhagen

@angel: I have a nitto adb-x lying around, which I think will look good.
The wound up is theadless, so I will go for a silver thomson stem

  • You ride a HHSB, embrace the pain of looking like a ship figurehead.

Rather not, already decided that i don't like the bars and i'm sure my nice practical risers will be back on soon until i get some compact drops

NOOO!!! Seriously, get them threaded (unless the steerer is carbon... then get the Thomson) and get a Nitto quill stem, it'll look so much better! ;P

Am so jealous of you for that frame, especially at the price you paid!
