thats a really nice mercian. was it custom? i really like the paintjob, alot of the mercians ive seen have really loud paintjobs, which i imagine they have just becuase you can when geting a custom made. thats realy subtle and classy.
i actually dont mind the stem, it doesnt stand out to me as being wierd. alough i am a riser nazi and would prefer to see some drops or bullhorns.
sweet bike, very jelous

Pain to stop without using the brake? But that's a singlespeed is it not? If it's fixed then you 101% need a lockring but where's the thread!? :-$
Looks and sounds very strangeIts deffinately a fixed setup not a singlespeed (freewheel), not 100 percent on the gearing either, will work this out later...
why does it look weird?

Fixed hubs have two threads, one for the cog and one for the lockring. The lockring goes on the smaller one to keep the cog on, otherwise it would unscrew due to the backwards force put on it, were you to skid, resist etc...

Miles,
your exlplaining that to the wrong people,
im pretty sure we all know this.Or am i missing something.

explaining it to aserota, who seems pretty new to fixed gear bikes. He posted up his bike on the previous page, and the rear hub appears to be missing a lockring thread, el squire and pistanator mentioned it as well.
EDIT: looking back, it looks like you've got a lockring on there already aserota..

Agree, but not helped by using a Thomson which is one of the chunkiest stems.
Still, I shouldn't be commenting as it got me in to trouble a few weeks back with the whole quill stem on a steel frame mantra...

Looking good! forms

Well, i respect your opinion. I ummed and arred about whether i should go threaded or threadless for ages. I too like a nice classic quill stem, and i don't think i have to justify my decision for threadless any more than i already have - just different strokes init!
thats a beautiful ride that mate!

Cheers bro! Yeah it's fully custom. I ummed and arred for just as long about the paintjob as the steerer. I came across a programme on the net where you could choose ur own mercian colours, and it included outlined barber poles (for the seat-tube). That got me thinking, i called mercian and they said they could accomodate just the barber shop outline...it grew from there.
Here's the link to the colour chooser, if your getting a merc give it a look!

You never need to justify your decision mate, it's your bike, it just look queer to my eyes, as in a bit strange to see a combination of aheadset and lugged frame but not necessary wrong thought! if you love it, that's all that matter really, it's still a fucking lovely bike.

Fools indeed.
People with different tastes, that is all. Nobody is a fool.
Well, maybe you are :-)

How about YOU suck my balls mister.
-
• #6194
Mercians weren't built with A head stems in mind, looks odd imo
-
• #6195
you can both have one ball each xx
-
• #6196
Makes swapping between risers/drops nice and easy though.
Looks ace to me, trip to darkest derby for me if I ever find a load of money
-
• #6197
@smithchild - that's easy to do with a threaded steerer too, you just have two stems with different bars in each.
-
• #6198
How about YOU suck my balls mister.
Too small for me I'm afraid. I only suck the balls of real men.
-
• #6199
I thought it's easier with a threaded steerer?
