  • Yeah, it's a good sized ding... bigger than the seller made out,

I think he made a pretty big deal out of it and from his pictures it looked huge

  • Built this up over the weekend and took it the 23 miles to and from work yesterday and today, honestly, amazing.
Tight and responsive but smooth and great for the SE23 hills.

  • I remember seeing a little CNC machining company (the father/son business where the father was a longstanding cancer sufferer) who make little 9/10 shimano/campag conversion kits.

    Cant...remember... the name.

This what you are thinking of

  • Just get some Crank bros pedals with a platform, and you'll be fine. I currently own Eggbeaters, Candys, Quattros, and Mallets. I love the mechanism and versitility. Been riding fixed up and down big mountains using the Quattros for years. The platform stops you from being able to loosen the cleat by pressing down.

Are non-fixie-skidders finding a problem with egg-beaters releasing? I've been using a pair (stainless model) around London commuting in all weathers for 7-8 years fixed and I've only pulled out when the cleats have been really worn, but then I use my brake. Like Smallfurry I love the mechanism and the ease of use in traffic, they're a brilliant piece of industrial design.

    Were you thinking of Highpath?

I bought an 8sp shimano to campag converted cassette for a hope hub from them back when 8sp was the most you could get.....

  • Highpath Engineering?

Whoops -should read whole page before posting

  • Hey all,
here is my current project, built from scratch, fully functional but the current belleri handlebar will be replaced by a
sachs new success (copy of modolo X-tenos) and the vitus seatpost will be replaced by a chorus (more straight).

    Veneto frame, columbus cromor
    Italia saddle (model???)
Sachs New Success brakes, ergo levers, rear and front mech
Mavic 631 crankset, Mavic 640 pedals, Mavic open pro rims laced on ultegra 6400 hubs

    I like that. A lot.
For me, aesthetically, I'd have the stem a bit higher and the ergos further round the bends with the bars rotated. But you're changing the bars you said so.....
Apparently you can use the Sachs ergo levers with the gorgeous Mavic rear dérailleur, cool mongrel drivetrain. I thought about trying it on my Cougar, I have that same second generation 631 chainset too. Sachs new success is pretty nice though, what are the brakes like?

  • tips - clip in while against the wall to support yourself while sitting on the bike, do not look down as you attempt to clip in, do that a handful of time to get the feel of where the cleat is in your shoes, and how it felt when it engaged.

eggbeater's cleat are brass, thus they will wear out alarmingly fast if you continued to use them with your road shoes.

Still struggling to get in, ill try your tip of not looking next time, had my first topple as well! :P was on grass thankfully.

Friend of mine has some spare used pedals, Look and Shimano i think, so maybe i can find some cleats and try them out to

I guess it was a bad idea using the egg beater cleats with road shoe's

  • meconium- Very nice!

  • ^ Agreed, I like it a lot.

I'd keep the bent seatpost too, it goes well with the kinky top tube.

  • meconium, that's a shit name BTW.

  • meconium, that's a shit name

  • what are the brakes like?

    They're just like Modolos.

  • The boys are just being playful. I've ridden road bikes with MTB shoes since before most of them were born, and I'm not dead yet.

    Only on the inside.

    Ha!

  • just finished putting another group together to finish something

I cleaned up the stem with, but hope i can polish up the seat post
    dremel methinks

  • Yum.

  • YES! lovely
