Girlfriend's present is road ready, such a comfy riding position!
Thanks to 1000archangels, sheathy, tommmmmm, yeahnerdz and papercrate for all the bits for £free or £cheap :P
Also to Mycycle for free nuts and bolts and CS Holloway for cutting bars and fork free :)

Does the rear brake work with that cable routing?
-
• #57456
yeah really well actually! full application = skid and no 'lag' so to speak.

I'm sorry but I don't like that, I mean that I feel sorry for your girlfriend. I'm not trying to be rude, but the build is just missing some things.
The whole bike looks so nude. A mixte frame would do better I guess.

There's nothing wrong with it, it's just a cheap functional bike. Add mudguards and a rack and it's the perfect commuter.
-

opinions noted gracefully but build cost south of £50 all in so cant really complain.
oh and yes on the mixte frame but the sunsolo cost £5.

I know about the 50 pounds, and that is not much for a bike build from nothing to something, but for 50 pounds you could have made something nicer.

You're not his girlfriend. You don't need to like it.

really?
even a beater wheelset in excellent condition as above (true, good braking surfaces) would cost a fair bit
frame for under £10 with no structural damage/rust and decent dropouts are hard to come by. either that or you'll get one with a stubborn seatpost or some other annoying problem.
Apart from that the important bits on this build like headset, bb, brake cables, pads, front wheel bearings all new or never fitted
I'm happy with value and she's not too bothered with bike aesthetics.
If I see she suddenly turns into a keen cyclist and wants to join me on weekend rides I may put the whole thing on sale for a couple of notes and get her a nice birthday present.

well, as I said, for a build made from seperate parts, 50 pounds is not much.
As for my girlfriend, I bought this: http://link.marktplaats.nl/534623415 for only 20 euro. Which is about 15 pounds, Which technically gives me 35 pounds left for some parts.

Have neglected the Argos since December... felt pretty bad! Got it out just now, cleaned it all up and finally got round to fitting the track bar setup and taping... Bought this tape last year, I don't know if I love or hate it. It's on now anyway...
Photo isn't great I know, but am shattered...

• #57467
Do you have a drive side photo?
-
• #57468
Well that proves you can tape bars up...

It's dark, will get a drive side tomorrow (with some more appropriate pedals...)

I think one of the appeals of this project was that considering she knows how much I love bikes she was therefore interested and constructively involved in the build to an extent.
So apart from a cheap bike it was the process of building it that was valuable. Something your admittedly cheaper and nicer bike may have a harder time achieving.

I understand, same thing as the my first fixed gear, which I build up with my little brother, who didn't wake up a few days after we were finished.. the bike was extremely ugly, but means a lot to me.
But my girlfriend is also involved in this one ;)

Tape on the argos is awesome, really nice from that angle :)

Same as I had on my Pro Winner.
Those were the days...

Bought this tape last year, I don't know if I love or hate it.
I love it .. Looking for some similar (but Red) for a build I got planned in my head, well I've got frame and wheels. Can you let me know where you found it? Is it Pelton Shade tape?
Project Beater Done.
Most of it is bodges, will be sorting them out as an when I can.
The rear brake/ fixed for example- is because I couldn't drill out the fork last night.
(and the chain- need a new chain asap- which will then be shortened a bit)
(also would like a Coaster rear wheel, and to make it look slightly less shit)
Great ride though,
