sorry oz, no money at the moment this is an in the future project -

well, polishing the bits and putting it back together of course, save you money too.

Not to worry, I thought a the B17 would suit the bike.

yeh was doing that earlier, fairy liquid, WD40, white spirit etc. messy stressy stuff. absolute nightmare getting the bar tape off. it was like electrical tape but harder to get off stickier etc.

Do not paint!
Hugo posted a decent example of how you can get old paint looking good, a few pages back. I think a singlespeed conversion with guards, chunkier tyres etc would look good. -

Just needs a lick of paint ...
wow! indeed, that is going to be lovely, Jules

I've finished my super sensible winter bike. New bars, levers, brake, tires and mudguards. Not pretty but should do the job when the weather gets shitty.

yea, it seems like quite a decent frame. Selling my steamroller as I want a full cx steel frame with cantis, a bit slacker geo and higher front end as my winter/bad weather bike. MIght even put a freewheel on it. The internal cable routing, hidden fender mounts, dropouts, the paint. Liking the details on the frame quite alot. Got 37mm nokia studs for winter but not sure if I use them as they probably wont allow fenders at the same time. 28 or 32 paselas (or small block 8) with tan sidewall next summer.
sort of like a budget geekhouse to me :-)
loving this setup on james matthew lalondes bike:

Yeah I've been very happy with mine. "Budget Geekhouse" seems like an apt description. I've got a Surly/Salsa Delgado wheelset on mine with some Conti Contacts for road use. I've also got some Speed Kings in the shed but the idea of tan Small Block 8s is intriguing.

ultegra road pedals in the post, white bar tape in the cupboard as I m still deciding on positioning, might even swap out bars for something more modern/ergo. also needs nicer saddle.
but i test rode it today and jesus christ its lovely. felt like all my troubles disappeared. like a feather.
and anyone know who might be able to help me with seattube decals for this? might try mario vaz. no joy on the bay.
jesus fuck I cant wait to go and bang out some laps of richmond on this, hoon it down to brighton, reps of devils dyke, it climbs like a motherfucker.

That's going to be fantastic. You should go for different bars. I think I have those (NOS 3ttt from Planet X?) and modern levers don't really fit well them.

I'm really digging the looks of tan sidewalls on cx tyres. Is there any cx clinchers with tan sidewalls?

Also helps to have an all black deepish carbon rim. Not sure what the tan sidewall would look like on a black rim with silver sidewall?
-
• #52195
going all silver low profile rims on that, classic looks. I think it'll look pretty good with tan sidewalls

yep, pump.
restoration usually mean keeping the original part, i reckon you can make it back into it's original glory (with new tyres and such of course).
