imo risers look WAY nicer with steep downwards angle stems than flat or upwards stems.
-

I'm going to neg rep the next person who tries to persuade us using a drop-stem with risers is a bad idea.
It's happens because;
a/ Nitto make stems to match your risers and it's a cool sounding name as well as being Japanese (de facto cool).
b/ EVERYONE has seen a courier with a pair of risers knocking around.
c/ Logging on to Hub Jub and spending £30 on a set of alu risers and a £70 stem is no worse than rollin' to soho and doing it in TFG.ftfy ; )

Depressingly... I think there is some truth in that.
[edit] Nobody spends £30 on a pair of riser bar though do they? £5 from Halfords/LBS bargain bin innit? [edit]

Bit OTT.
Surely these make more sense. Cheaper and with a larger flat section to free up space for your hands after you've cut them down.

No, I'm sending the Scatto back to Wiggle, it was that or taking a Dremel to my new stem :-( Severe fail by 3T, their sprint bars don't fit any of the heavy duty carbon sprint stems. Back to the Deda Pista bars for now, the Scattos will have to wait until I upgrade to a 496, which apparently now comes with a Scatto compatible stem.
-
• #51986
Is it that the shape where the afix to is odd or the sizing? Seems like a total fail on 3T's part to release new bars that don't fit potential stems!!

The bar is 31.8 in the middle, but the bit in the middle isn't very wide, and it then gets thicker front-to-back after the centre clamping section. As a result, any stem clamp wider than about 45mm hits the aerofoil section of the bar. The Look stem is <45mm at the front, but flares out at the centre of the back half of the clamp area to about 58mm
I wouldn't expect 3T to have taken account of the Look HSD, as it's a rare stem, but not fitting either the Look 496 integrated stem or the Pro Vibe Track stem looks like a major oversight.

He's old. And with age comes wisdom
Built up a commuter for my brother out of a frame he picked up and some bits.
Giant Peleton 7200 frame, nothing special just double butted 4130
A bit of a mix of parts.
Dura ace cranks, BB and rear mech.
Ultegra front brake and sti's
105 rear brake and front mech.
ITM Millennium seatpost, stem and barsStill needs a saddle, chain, tyres and cables. So I'm going to be on the look out for an old style Flite if anyone knows of one.

Not necessarily wisdom, but as long as you always try to find out what you don't already know and the memory holds out, you can't help but have a lot of knowledge after enough years have passed.
-
• #51991
The internet hugely helps when that memory lets go a bit (or wasn't even in the memory to start with)
Without the internet I would know about 10% of what I know. Actually that is probably a bit of an exaggeration, let me just research the likely number on the internet and get back to you.

I have the kmc kool chain on my everyday bike and I must say that it is great. Only 13 quid, its lasted me over a year and its still going strong.

Carbon steerer no longer projecting through the stem? Well done, saved 3g and you'll have to readjust your headset every week as the stem walks up the steerer. Still not sure about gumwalls on that build either. Overall, I'd ride it at 6.5kg (Keo pedals, SLR saddle, Corsa CX tyres, proper bottle cages) but at 6.0 it looks more weightweenie project than race bike.
And how long till the steerer goes crunch? I'd always run a spacer above the stem on a carbon steerer.
