i don't think you need the GXP tool. I fitted my omniums GXP BB just by hand and then you just need a big allen key (forget which size) to fit the cranks. make sure there is no play though, if there is take them off and start again
Dunno, was jut going to take it to an LBS... a tenner is a small price to pay for peace of mind, and now I've found an LBS I like, good to support them where I can.
Yeah, they probably only make the tools for fun. You don't really need the bottom bracket done up tight. :)
Malaysian, the bike is lookin rad. Love raw with black components. Is it bare steel or have you had it clear coated?
Cheers, just raw at the minute, have oiled it up with WD40, going to see how I get on... I mean, it's going to be a pretty fair weather bike. If it starts to suffer then I'll clean it down and coat it.
^if the cranks are on properly the BB can't move. I've been riding them 8 months without issue, probably soon to be in epic fail thread no doubt..
rather you than me (:

Most people don't fail to unclip the first day because they're concentrating so much on the new pedals. Usually wait until you think you've got it sorted, then roll up to a group of friends to show off your new kit for the first time and gently topple over in front of everybody. Absolutely guaranteed it will never happen if you're not being watched by at least 5 people. That does seem to make sense, thinking back to friends who think they've got it nailed then over they go. I went over my first time, was slowing down to a stop on a very narrow country lane to let a horse by. As I fall the horse gets a fright and bucks up in the air with this elderly gentleman rider being totally calm and in control. It's funny how after a while it becomes second nature.

But what is the frame? Don't recognise it, I haven't been keeping up with bikes recently.
Not a fan of the downtube paint though.
Makes me miss mine more now. Never gonna get it back though :(

I am building a slave stable:
06 Langster - this will be my cheap dirty little whore of a slave bike
Condor Lavoro - this will be my high class escort slave bike
SS Carbon MTB - this is my HHSMTB, for when a momgolian clusterfuck of a ride is on the horizon
Yet to be bought classic frame - still searching for the right frame, this bike will be my slave free wife of a bike, with no slavery in sight

I so want a huge travel fuck off heavy bike like that for chucking down mountains but while I could probably afford to build one, it'd be the upkeep that'd bankrupt me I think.

I've just finished building this. First time clipped in and have already fallen over at the lights in front of people which was lovely. Anyhow, thanks to everyone who helped me.
Allister for the frame
Kboy for the seatpost
Mrx for the shoes
Chainbreaker for the wheels (apologies in advance but they HAD to be sprayed)and now my town bike is completed for winter with mudguards fitted
Nice Fred, I'm taking my beater Raleigh track to Donnys this weekend to get it sorted and then I'm going to build it pretty similar to the Rixon...

Love this pic! Is that a jump at the bottom?
It is. The landing is on the rock, afterwards you get a nice steep downhill section. This is all to be found in France, Chamonix to be exact.

Nice to see him being used! Where abouts does he live now?
Les is now a resident of Leeds.... Got the old BB out today, and someone sorted me a half link for my chain. Expecting him to be rolling by mid next week. Just debating whether to buy a GXP tool or just ask the shop to do it....
a gxp tool is more than a quarter the price of a full kit, and some of my tools are a little tired... so part of me says might as well get the full kit, but then, I'm skint..
