^ How does it go though? Have you played on it yet?
How bad was that ding in the chain stay?
Further tweaks?
Awesome level of commitment.
I see this as very differnet to divs who grind down lovely frames for 'that clean fixy look'.
Personally not for me but as they say

my latest project, just finished
that is stupid, could of easily got a road frame no one will miss then cut the seat post into a few pieces then weld it back together with a bend

No you couldn't.

well yeah, you could...

Right, I shouldn't take the bait but here goes.
Reason 1 - if he wanted to use decent tubing for the bike (like he is), welding it would be very difficult (the main reason most steel frames are brazed rather than welded is because welding them is fucking difficult).
Reason 2 - you're introducing several welds into the tube which will no doubt make it a shite load weaker unless they're perfect - which is quite an ask for an "amateur framebuilder".
Reason 3 - welding edge to edge like that would again being difficult/stupid/time consuming/weak.
Reason 4 - at what point does this become "easy".
Literally everything you post is total waste.

And then be as strong as a curved tube? If you read his post you will see why he chose a pre-bent tube from a frame over anything else.

I think the polo bike is fucking ace! Good on you for knowing exactly what you want and getting it built.

Still think polo is for gay hosers mind.

tube guage optimised for polo? are you joking?! have you seen half the bikes on court? fair enough you get the occasional perfect bike, but they cost waaay too much. this setup is more than strong enough for what il throw at it.
to quote harvey (crackfox) - "you can never spend enough money, time or effort on your polo bike. never"

okay I understand why he did it a bit more now, but there's no need to be harsh at the end
still think there was another way around it without killing that low pro frame

I need a pair of 9spd shimano compatible wheels. The RS wheels look the most likely but R500 -> RS10 -> RS20 -> RS30. The price increments are minimal and they all seem about the same weight, though weight probably isn't a concern at this price point? I'm lost, which should I buy?
£126.36 for the RS30 at Ribble so any other suggestions around that price?

'no polo, no talk'its incredible. perfect for me. a lot more aggressive than my last frame, really fast, turns on a dime, easy to get the front wheel off the ground etc etc
the ding wasn't too severe, but even so, wouldve bin a splinter in my mind so to speak....
further tweaks? not quite sure what you mean.... the chainstays were crimped and bent to accomodate bigger tyres, built in seatclamp, its got bottle cage mounts underneath the top tube for a mallet holder/beer holder that im currently working on, oh and canti mounts on the 'wrong' side
well yeah, you could...
lol

parts bin + £50 = hack bike.
a few niggles but it'll do :)
(thanks to osr for patience + tools)
(the outer is too short, not just a trick of perspective. oops. and ideally it could do with a larger sprocket/smaller chaingring, but my smaller ones (I do have some! somewhere!)are mia atm) -

For a nice polo bike.
oxymoron.
-
• #47991
^nice one Tom
What size chainring & sprocket you need?
That looks like a 50+ ring, I have a Gerbhart 46 (i think) at home. -
• #47992
it's on 50x17, so compared to *the usua*l it's lighter, but I ideally wanted something in the 68-74" margin. I've got a 48 and a 44 back at my parents which I'll have a rummage for tonight, but they haven't been seen for some time... (plus I'm not sure on the bcd of these cranks, some googling awaits)

It's his bike, bigs ups for having the cojones to do it.
I prolly wouldn't even know where to start ;)Still think polo is for gay/straight hosers mind.

All that effort and the tiniest buckle in your wheel will put you out of a game.
Go figure.

i intend to use all parts of the frame, as i have another project on the horison :)
can't let things go to waste!
Maybe you could melt the remaining tubes down for fishing weights?
cheers ;)
