  • Frisch headset ain't C-rec right? Put the veloflex ones on, these look too fat haha.
    Form>function. V. nice frame btw!

  • Roberts build is part-finished. Still need to swap out the Stronglight headset for a Campag one and fit the pair of Chorus monoplaners I've got lying around. Wheelset will be replaced too. I've got a set of C-Record tubs but would rather run clinchers. Oh and new bartape.

  • love that paint job

  • Project Weight Weenie:

Here is my Giant TCR Advanced 2, the build list is as follows:

Frame - Giant TCR Advanced Medium
Forks - Giant TCR Advanced (Cut steerer)

Seatpost - Giant Aero Post (Cut down slightly)
Saddle - Selle Italia SLR C64

Bars - Giant Contact SLR 42cm
Stem - Giant Contact SLR 100mm
    Bartape - Deda
    Shifters - Sram Red
    Cables - Gore Ride On
Brakes - Planet X Ultralight CNC

    Pedals - Time RXS Carbon
    Crankset - Sram Red 170mm 50/34
Bottom Bracket - Sram Press fit for BB86
    Front derailleur - Dura-Ace 7900
    Rear derailleur - Sram Red
    Cassette - Sram Red 11-23
    Chain - KMC X10

    Wheels - Soul C5.0
    Tyres - Michelin Pro 3
Tubes - Bontrager Race X Lite

It's currently sitting at 14.06lbs (6.37kg). I say I'll be happy once it gets below 14lbs, but I'm sure that will just set the next target.

  • I'm not really a carbon fan, but that's awesome

  • gorgeous

  • That Giant is amazing.

  • Using vintage campag strada... have I done wrong?they do seem to be sticking out a bit....

You need a 110mm (111mm will do) ISO BB spindle. The Veloce ones are OK for the money, but Token are only a couple of quid more, nicer, and use a standard BB installation tool

  • The Giant certainly seems to hang together better aesthetically than a lot of weightweenie bikes, and it's 400g lighter than my 585, you bastard. Time to start abusing the credit card...

  • When I first purchased it I never had the intention of producing a superlight bike. It's just been a solid platform that through upgrading has ended up fairly light. It did get a bit addictive trying to get the weight down, changing from Ultegra to Red took a decent chunk off.

Compaired to some of the real weight weenie bikes it's still on the porky side. Though I don't plan on running super light tubs, and my pockets aren't deep enough for a sub 800g frame.

Next step might be a lighter stem.

  • Bar tape fail though. Has to be said :)

  • blah, blah, blah

    blah

you ride this, and just asked if those tyres on the GT, were home trainers?

    ATGNI

  • you ride this, and just asked if those tyres on the GT, were home trainers?

    ATGNI

Scroll up on the rat bike thread there's the same bike I posted with a bright orange front tyre which looks remarkably like a home trainer tyre.

  • why would anyone put a home trainer (and the guy who rides the bike looks like he knows his stuff) on the front of a well used road bike?

Is that a Continental Home Trainer tyre?

    With Spok:

might be worth quoting the actual pic you are talking about :)

  • Hmm, that's me told on the weight front- although it would be more of a fair fight if it was a 58cm rather than a (I presume?) 54.

Still, it's 800g lighter than mine- almost two pounds.

I'm just off to self harm

His flickr shows some rather tasteless builds. http://www.flickr.com/photos/sirbryanclark/sets/72157625325081289/

  • sorted, with roughly 0.7mm interference fit

    0.7mm that is lots!
I feel your pain, just found my new headset race is smaller than the fork headtube setting point, probably by 26.1 to 25.4 would be the standards I'm torn between.
forks are OK no rust or anything so instead might take the inside out of the headset race.
is that what you did? can't imagine flinging forks around on a lathe being much fun

  • Hmm, that's me told on the weight front

That's the UCI told, I think. 50mm deep clinchers, no stupid-light parts and still 400g under the limit. It would be underweight even with normal brakes and a proper saddle.

  • True, shows that there is head room in the weight limit for disc brakes also.

I should get my 50mm crabon tubs this week- very interested to see what they weigh in at vs my EA90 SLX, fully dressed.

  • Good as there, I reckon. Recent additions of Nitto Seatpin, Stem and Bars. Rides sweet, very happy.

I didn't do it but apparently it was easy, clamped on the steer tube and turned them at a low rpm. skimmed the setting point down just enough, luckily it gave a nice even fit.

  • I keep looking at it hoping to find something impractical. Maybe the saddle, but meh. It's good.

The Giant parts must be featherweight. I'm a bit jelous.

  • Different opinions on the effectiveness of those brakes, but other than that it's all good.

  • A giant frame/fork/seatpost like bmxed's is about 1990g. I have the ISP version of the frame, when I fisrt picked it up I was amazed having never picked up a carbon frame before

The weights are: (I weighed them with a digital scale)
    Frame - 1035g
    Forks - 325g (Before I cut them)
    Bars - 205g
    Stem - 136g
I can't remember the seatpost weight. I think it was arround 300g (uncut) with the SLR saddle.

They're light, but you can go still go a bit lighter.

The brakes definately aren't on par with Dura-Ace, but I don't weight much and they still stop me quick enough. The only scary moment I've had with them was in torential rain and I think that had more to do with the carbon braking surface.
