Hello. I have finally completed the single speed I started one month ago from the frame. spray painted, I know I can't compare it with the things you usually build...the frame is a 'weinmann' and I used the cheapest components ever....it is just a commuter for the GF, it is my first build so I went easy on the money and on the difficult things...it was more like a 'training', but I really think it looks good.
here is the full step-by-step thing if you want to give some advice on things i did bad.

Shouldn't we be fitting mudguards then?
There's definitely enough clearance to fit mudguards. -

bought a somewhat ok muddy fox courier for 20 euros from recycling centre last week. Some random parts thrown together to feel how it rides:
to do:- shorter stem
- fatter wheels
- road fork
good beater material.
That was my first propoer bike! Had a Suntour chainset, was lovely. Many, many woodland miles, and lots of stairs.
- shorter stem

Principia Gaia (Campag Comp triple 10 speed/Chorus wheels to Open Pro/Thompson post/Tektro brakes)
Current project, just thrown together for now to see what's what. Need to find clamp for front mech, and get a different stem/bars/seat, and fit brakes/cables etc.

^^ That looks lovely. Can't help but think that the seat post looks odd though.
love the hetchin, i think that those wheels work somehow on that bike!
