Ewans bike look like my bob got together with another little bob and popped out a sprog.

I think Ewan chose well. Maybe a bit crazy with the saddle/bar drop but apart from that...

Current set up.
Rory O'Brien track path frame
Dia Compe Gran Compe wheelset with Schwalbe Marathon 28c winter tyres (need to change)Leave the big tyres on and take it on some trails! They're dry right now.

I need some advice on the Coppi..
Priest bars are underway and got some Chorus cranks coming in, along with BB (thanks Retro_di_corsa).
I've got my eyes on some Monoplanars where I'll (try to) put some more recent brake pad holders on and a seatpost. Now, according to the rules, I'm allowed to use white for the saddle and bartape.
I was thinking of a white Regal and some white bartape (Fi'zik or Cinelli carbon for easy clean)?
Levers.. Dia Compe 135?
Inversed? To not (directly) 'ruin' the nice shape of the bars.
Anything else? Don't like the look of hooded levers on the bars.Unfortunately missed out on 2 nice wheelsets that came by..

if you go with reverse levers i'd go more retro than those
french ebay should be good i guess
-
• #43932
Dia Compe do some retro looking reverse levers as well. Check out practicalcycles.com. Also, I have the 135s and they look nice but they're quite retro in performance as well I find.
-
• #43933
Well, bike and components are early 90s, so I guess that'll look even more out of place
Some generic lever like this wouldn't really be suiting either.

Something to think about: if you're putting on priest bars I assume you probably won't be riding in lycra. If you ride in jeans, a white saddle won't stay that way very long.

Hmm, true.
I guess as long as it matches the blue on the bike, it'll be fine.. -
• #43936
These are nice and retro looking, but I guess they'd clash with white contact points a little bit...
Edit - beaten to it by aboots 4 posts :)

Thanks, but like I said, I'm not really looking for something (too) 'retro'.
That's why I posted the black version. -

could really do with a seatpost in a darker grey to match the stem and bars

That's why I posted the black version.if you want less retro, what about cane creek ones?

• #43940
Or ITM? They're pretty cheap too
-
• #43941
I'd just go for those:
But if you do I'm not sure I'd run tape the whole way up so maybe tt-style are better. I think the two just above are better visually than the one you posted.

sell the priest bars at a profit and buy some drops. your worries will be over.

Coppi is personally weeping in heaven.

Finished the Claud Butler "beater" project:
Thank you to those who sorted me out with parts for it :)
-
• #43945
not finished till you tape the bars ;)
-
• #43946
And get some clips for those pedals.
-
• #43947
Anyone got any spare in XL size? Got size 13 feet. The rear wheel is freewheel at the moment (converted from a normal road wheel), so don't really need clips at the mo.
-
• #43948
So you're going to need another brake if it's freewheel. Horrible things will happen if you ride freewheel with just a front brake. Rear brake you can get away with if you're not going to come across anybody else - e.g. dirt jumping...
Not trying to ruin your fun or anything but at the moment the bike isn't safe.
-
• #43949
How come? My Pompino is out of order at the moment and that was fixed (with front and back V-brakes too), which I vastly prefer, but the only wheel I have to use on the Claud Butler now is this converted road one.

Running with just a front brake is pretty scary. Even stopping for something normal like a set of traffic lights can be sketchy. If you have to pull hard on it you're gonna go over the front and mash your face. You you shift more weight to the back wheel the front wheels gonna skid and you mash your face...
Single back brake is a bare minimum -it's almost like riding fixed brakeless. At least when you skid the back wheel you can control it, there's no chance of controlling a front wheel skid.
YES Jambon! That looks rad.
Now you and SooperRiva must race. MUST!
