  • Meh,it's Gatorskin, be glad it's not the terrible Ultra Sport.

  • uneducated guess (as always) £2000ish.

If we're playing Antiques Roadshow, I reckon more like £2400.

  • and what are you doing with this set-up (track stem and deep drops, little gear ration, carbon clinchers)????

  • Meh,it's Gatorskin, be glad it's not the terrible Ultra Sport.

What don't you like about them.
I know a lot of people have this opinion but they seem ok to me.

  • My first time posting here. This is my 1976 SB numbered Team raleigh track that I ride to work everyday.

It could probably do with some white Cinelli bartape but I quite like the crazy fade stuff it has on it right now... It has a mix of Campag pista and SR pista hardware but what the hell, I love it as it is!

    Great looking bike.

I love gatorskins. Always seemed like a tough, grippy tyre to me. Feel particular good for fixed riding too, all that skid stopping seems to work well with them.

    (continuing with the theme)

I think you may be right, the 75 with the black Zen chainring defintely add another £200-250 on top.

also did my eyes decieve me or is that a Dura Ace threaded headset?

While the grip of Ultra Sport may be lacklustre but fine, it's the incredible lack of puncture protection, stratch that, the very thin rubber of the tyre itself that I didn't like, but that's purely the Ultra Sport only.

  • Nice to see a bike built up for track (maybe bigger G.I. needed?)........it is for track...Isn't it?

    yees

  • Actually I'll confess I'm jealous of the Kalavinka, it's the only Japanese Kierin bike I would like to own just for the sake of owning it.

It is. Was included with the frame, assuming that was bought from the NJS import listing that would have been about £850 plus shipping.

It's been maxed out, so to speak. The rims wouldn't have been my choice, personally, but I'm happy to see it's been built up to such a high standard and I'm sure Oliver is stoked with it. Love that frame.

  • I'll agree, even the deep section rims is growing on me now.

probably the first one I saw that I feel like trying it out on the track.

  • missing brake block for what?
For town. I don't have QR for the brakes so I take the blocks off when flipping; I leave them off when riding fixed and put them back on when riding free.

  • So why not leave them on when you flip the wheel?

Just deflate the tyres before taking it out.

  • I prefer less work.

  • Oh my. That Kalavinka is lovely.

  • If we're playing Antiques Roadshow, I reckon more like £2400.

this price covers everything but the frame, keep guessing,

  • I prefer less work.

and it's easier to constantly removed the brake block every time you feel like spinning like Kylie?

Heh, I was being a bit conservative, not knowing how much those 28h 110-spaced hubs cost, and ignoring build costs. No need to disclose everything... it's not MPs' expenses. ;)

    Are you illiterate?

  • and what are you doing with this set-up (track stem and deep drops, little gear ration, carbon clinchers)????

why wouldnt i use njs parts on an njs frame?
and the gear ratio works well with size of the chain ring,
the Gold Medal Pro track cog, is sworn by many professional riders,
the fact that the rims are clinchers means nothing, accept for being able to have the same quality as something like zipp but being able to build it up with preferred hubs,
    whats up?

    Do MP's include hipster tax?

  • What don't you like about them.
I know a lot of people have this opinion but they seem ok to me.

I think Gatorskins are really decent tyres. They are very grippy, which I found, made skidding tougher than with other tyres. They judder rather than skid, until they are really broken in - which can take ages. That may be a reason why a lot riders don't favour them? They make good front tyres... I rode on a pair for a long while, and found them to be very puncture resistant, and generally high performing. My main annoyance with them, is that they're incredibly difficult to get onto rims, even once they've been ridden for a while.
I wouldn't buy them for fixed wheel riding personally, but I do like them.
I think they are also considered to be heavy tires, which may also put some people off...?

  • Do MP's include hipster tax?

I think they're exempt, since being an MP pretty much disqualifies you from being a hipster.

if you look at previous posts youll be able to work it out, the frame was bought from Gabe at NJS Export and the archive of sold frames shows the price there,
no MP just dont like talking money
