  • Get a BMX road bike ;0

    I have a road bike.
me and it spent much of saturday in a sideways position as we tried to go for a weekend ride.
it was funny, but cold, and gritty.

also..... couldn't give a crap about it being from taiwan.
also pretty sure, though willing to be proven wrong, that genesis are a taiwan manufactured bike, designed in the UK, no?

and finally, i;ve been looking over it alot, and a few come up as pretty epic.
The C'dale, the Cube, the Scott, and the Genesis.
the first three are more race orientated, but have all the nec. features for an all rounder, and the genesis is a jack of all trades.....

i think it would be prudent to wait and see what I do get, though the gryphon looks quite likely, just cos its fun!!!

  • Did your geekhouse sell? didn't that have clearence for cx tyres?

  • not quite- it just doesn't fit by very little.
plus the fact i grew, which has made me go from a 54(.5)cm top tube to a 56cm top tube has warranted the switch.

and no its not sold- and if i buy the Gryphon, it will probably be geared up for touring, with some new braze ons and i'll work it out somehow.

i'll definitely sell the internal gear.

    fuck, i should be working.
see you guys in two days.

Will CX tyres give you much more grip on wet and icy roads though?

I'm not sure. Just a thought. A CX based utility bike is most versitile bike you can buy IMHO. But then you know that.

  • I'd quite fancy a bike like this for a bit of a laugh, skidz hopz and wheeliez like a hudlum. wouldn't want to cover any distance on it on that gi though.

It's great fun, and it's actually 61GI so it's high enough to not hinder traveling about too much.

  • ah right looks lower than that. yeah 61 is a good balance.

shame about the geekhouse that really is a lovely looking piece of kit.

Man you lucky fucker, I wish I'm still growing!

    +1 to that.

I got myself a cross check a few weeks ago and it really is very good. Sadly I can only have 1 bike, so I need a bike that can do everything, which I think the cross check can better than anything else that isn't custom. At the moment it's got some 32c road tyres and full mudguards on it, and I'll be making a front rack over Christmas. It feels a lot more spritely than I was expecting, it's not light, but I'm not finding that a problem really. I think my cycling ability is holding me back much more than a slightly heavier bike ever will and it is an extremely comfortable ride, which makes the weight sacrifice worth it.

I'm using (and really getting on well with) bar-end shifters. I know they are a sticking point for a lot of people, but I like the accuracy you get, it's a nice feel. With the addition of some STI type shifters I bet a cross check would rival a lot of those spoken about above.

I've heard good things about the Salsa ed posted, but they really are ugly, and not even in a way that I could grow to love. Just plain ugly. There is a review of some £1,000-ish CX bikes in the December issue of Cycling Plus which might be worth a quick read.

  • I'm enjoying my PX uncle john at the moment. The Bike radar review says good things too.

I just need to sort out the front mech and bar tape and I'll be on my way.... and tweek the canti's :( They can be a fucking bitch can't they!

The other advantage is it's got disc braze-ons on the rear. Unfortunately they're on the outside of the stays, not the inside, which from a quick read sometimes gives problems with racks. As it looks like there will be allot more cx disc stuff on the market soon, it seems like a good move by PX.

The key to the usefulness of a CX in my mind is that it handle very much like your favourate road bike. So it doesnt feel like a compromise.

I run bar end shifters, but then I have a MTN, v-brake, groupset (its what I had to hand) so STI's were not an option. Bar end shifters are uber reliable, and can be used even while wearing lobster style gloves. So I wont be changing them.

I hope to upgrade my frame, and upgrade to mechanical disc brakes (because of snow). But I would'nt change anything else.

Actually just noticed the XS peregrine is in production

  • Just picked this up off ebay what you guys think? seller said in listing it has a Dura ace bottom bracket when its actually the chainset and its also got campagnolo headset, seat post and cinelli stem and bars.
did i get a good buy?

  • yup! its an nice bike, enjoy!

  • Description makes it sound stolen tbh - "quick release pedals", no size listed...

  • Funny you should mention the pedals as i gave them back to the fella, so he could sell them with the shoes and cleats he had as the pedals would be no good to me anyway.

  • Yeah, probably isn't nicked - seeing so many stolen bike listings has made me a bit paranoid about such things.

  • It's got a bit too respectable in here, everything is kinda... nice.

Time to dirty it up a bit, behold: The "ProBike":

Frame found in a skip, old deep V's and big ass tyres make a perfect winter rat bike. Almost sorted all the parts, pity - cause I'd love to ride it around today. Unfortunately originally built for 26'' wheels so the V-Brakes I've got won't reach the rims - has holes for calipers though.

  • I fancy making one of these.

  • Just bought a bike, not really a proper project, more of a rolling project where I change a couple of bits to make it more my own.

Forgive my ignorance but what is this thing?

  • Funny you should ask Wools, I think it might be a bicycle of some kind.

  • ^^ yours ed?

  • Looks more like a Charge Scissor.

  • nearly there, just need brakes and rack then i'm away! put some of germaneddie's mudguards on it, love them

my housemate's reaction: "at least no ones going to nick it, who wants noddy's bike?"

    oof

  • Schoolboy error there Ed, your finger is in the way.
