Hey here's my first attempt at a fixed gear bike.
It's a bit of a beater I suppose, as it's not the best frame in the world, but I'm fairly proud of it, now it's almost complete.Spec at the moment is as follows...
23" Raleigh originated frame,
Maillard hubs,
Cheapo Rigida 700c steel rims,
Stronglight 48T chainring + crank,
16T sprocket,
Unica plastic saddle,
Weinman caliper,
GB chopped and flopped bars,
GB Brake lever,
Fuji pedals,
3TT quill stem,Basically a budget build.
Just awaiting a 2 finger brake lever in the post, then I can finish wrapping the bar tape, add some toe clips, and straps and off I go, until I start updating all the components that is!http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/tlaw22/Bike%20stuff/_MG_8056.jpg
Planned mods are...
replacement frame
27" Airlight/mavic wheels, which I'm refurbishing at present.
Better dual pivot brake caliper. -

I like the green, was it that colour or did you have it painted?
-
• #36105
Did it myself.
Lots of rubbing either with a drill, and various wiry spinning attachments, or with wet or dry.
Tiny bits of body filler to cure scratches here and there, loads more rubbing with wet or dry,
4x coats of primer, more finer grade wet or dry, 3-4 coats of Rover Tara green spray paint, more even finer wet or dry and then 3-4 coats of clearcoat. Ta Da!Looks pretty nice close up http://i121.photobucket.com/albums/o228/tlaw22/Bike%20stuff/_MG_8041.jpg

Ok, the bike is now complete. Had its first ride on last nights alley cat. Cheers to buckaroo for drawing up the decals, really good job. Please leave the spoke jokes, they are a bit played out.

I think that Condor is really bloody lovely. What bars were on there before?
I do think tape the bars up and that would cap it off.i had nitto b125 drops on before, nice bars but not great for the everyday. what colour bar tape do you reckon ? ive always thought tape can look a bit crap, but the approaching winter might call for it
and yeah, my hubs do have gaps -

http://www.condorcycles.com/Components-Accessories/8150-Condor-Handlebar-Tape/flypage.tpl.html black?
would look pretty good, my flatmate just re-wrapped his handlebars with the fizik gel stuff and cinelli bar tape, and it feels proper comfy. Thats what im gonna do when i get some airwings.

has anyone tried the eleganza tape? have it on my road bike and it's the best tape I've ever used. Much prefer it to the fizik stuff i've put on my fixed.

Rather than start a thread, does anyone have an 80mm or shorter ahead stem? Must be black and 25.4mm.
And Max, I'm considering stripping the SLR I had off you. Will this hurt my bum? Probably will.
-
• #36119
I have one. Cinelli Vai 80mm, black, 26.0 clamp but you can use a Nitto shim (might have one) and all is fine. £10.
Regarding stripping the saddle, why do you want to? If it's fine as is there's no point. I find stripped ones more forgiving on road bikes as opposed to fixed wheel. The only benefit I see in them is the smoothness, doesn't grip to your butt in the wrong place, and doesn't get wet and gross when it rains.

I guess it looks cool too...
-
• #36121
The looking cool part is what I was thinking. Probably won't. Will have that stem off you though, I'll give you a text at some point soon - I'll grab it friday lunch probably?
-
• #36122
Sounds good so far, send me a text now as I've lost your number. In a bit

Come on, are you telling me you wouldn't want to own a siik fixie like this?
It's too big for me, I'm 6ft 3in so would have to go for a 49 or 51, besides the green grips would clash with my black heart. Although I do think it's rad to the power of max apart from the crank, seat, wheels, stem, bars, grips and lack of bracks.

I really want to know what my Regal E looks like stripped because it's carbon fibre. I don't want to spend another £90 replacing it if it doesn't work though.

Have you wet sanded or used a compound to cut back the clearcoat for a shiny shine? I've thought about a DIY respray in the past but wasn't sure if I could get a good finish, especially around the stays at the ST and BB.
Yeah decals are on top of the gloss so could come right off but I've been liking the contrast and the history they tell...
And no I really like the chain and it is staying.
