Heading out to collect new wheels... Hold this space for awesomeness!

I don't have a frame of reference, when I look at what I wrote it sound correct.
I tend to make sure that everything's spelled right to make up for my woeful grammar.

I always assumed that literacy was not connected with the ability to hear, because neither the act of reading nor writing requires you to be able to hear. I now realise that's a bit daft though, because it's all connected with talking and listening, isn't it?
Anyway, frankly, Ed's posts are written better than many people on here who have all their senses intact. I've got used to the way he writes, just like I've got used to other people's awful spelling and grammar.
Bit odd that on the internet it's deemed OK to wade in and criticise a stranger without knowing all the facts. You wouldn't bump into Ed on the street and have a go because he couldn't hear what you were saying, would you?

Of course, anyone who wants to have a pop for his love of mudguards, canvas and leather, or his aversion to leaning when going around corners, can go straight ahead...

Don't forget about the difference in accent that often made people spell thing differently, such as 'rediculous', people assumed that's the correct spelling because it sound correct (especially with accent).
In my cases, my grammar was more due to learning BSL when I was in a deaf boarding school and was the only one who wasn't waggling their hand like an angry italian, and sign langauge is basically like text speech.
A full sentence would go like this "Hello Tom, how are you? did you see the Ranger games last night?"
But in sign language (and not just BSL) it's shorten to;
"Hello Tom, How you? See Ranger games last night?"
So yes, quite a lots of deaf people will sound stupid when they try to talk or write, I know a deaf lawyer who was raised in an BSL environment for half his childhood, the court kicked him out because they though he was taking the piss by trying to speak in a 'gang slang' (was a gang-related trial).

I use shorthand quite a bit, and you have a similar thing there. Some words are always followed by other words (a bit like Q always comes with a U) so you miss them out.
When I'm at work I won't hear or write "Ladies and gentlemen" at the start of a speech, I'll put down "LAG" on my book. Actually, I won't even put that, I'll put the symbol for that.
But when I write it out later I convert it back. Learning shorthand made me re-think a lot of things about language. Would love to learn another language (I know everyone says that) because I think it might do the same again.

Very true, certain people write posts that don't scan, are tiresome to read and provide no worthwhile, or even mildly amusing, content.
Ed delivers in tomes.

Legnano! I'd never heard of them until L'Eroica when I was lent one.
I sat next to an Italian at dinner, no shared language between us, but we persevered. He told me, through hand signals and the odd word, that Colnago (which he rode) was like Ferrari, while Legnano (which I rode) was only Maseratti.
Lovely bloke. We had a whole conversation by drawing diagrams on the tablecloth with biro.
And the Legnano was great fun.

:)
My bike was outside and he asked me what year it was, by writing some years on the cloth with a question mark near. I shrugged, so he drew a seatclamp. Where was the bolt? I pointed. Then he drew some cranks, and other parts. Eventually he pinned it down to '82/'83. There's a man who knows his Legnanos...
He just prefers Colnago!

I believe Ed writes in English using British Sign Language, give him a break.
I have always enjoyed Ed's posts. Especially the vegtable related insults. His grammar reminds me of Yoda, which is surely no bad thing*
*Unless someone /always/ talks like Yoda, on purpose, because they think it makes them sound cool. That would be awful.

Could be anything from that picture I guess.
Also need to realise that it passes through spellcheck.
Need the decent grammar check which catch those sort of mistake
AN example to prove the point !
