It's a thin line between changing up and putting the hammer down and slamming on the brakes and skidding! I wonder how they feel to ride?
I love this innovative stuff. I'd love a bike with hub gears - rather than standard three-speed Sturmeys, I've a couple of those.

These road bikes are making me jealous. I'm getting one made as a birthday/Christmas present to myself. Probably won't be ready until the New Year.
By then I will be skint from splashing out on it, but hopefully very happy. It's an investment in health and enjoyment, right? Right?

they also do a 2 gear without a brake which is cool, need a rear rim brake though id imagine?

scorch, if your stem is also very long to compensate, then you may need a bigger frame.

I really liked Gilbert's Belgium themed Canyon at the WC Road Race.

Used to be quite popular amongst TT in the 50's.
Just to be clear, the TT set up was a 2-speed cable operated fixed hub (TF), not a kickback, and I think more people would have had the 3-speed ASC by the 1950s
-

2 speed fixed, that's right, got it muddle up!

My delivery bike at work has a 3 speed nexus, coaster brake with kickback hub. If you move it slightly back, it brakes; if you move it fully back, it skids.
-
• #35567
kickback hubs? are you sure?

Just bought this super prestige off ebay (italy) for 260 quid. Arrived yesterday.
Looks nearly mint for 23 years old.I really like the splatter paint job- reminds me of a Cinder-Cone i wanted as
a yoot.Got some campagnolo kit , stem and other stuff to put on but need some wheels before I rebuild.
I had a Motorola Merckx but after a year I admitted to myself it was too big so let it go.
Rides ok at the mo' - the rear mech's abit noisy other than that its fine.
Should be nice when its finished!

Ed, seattube length and toptube length are not strictly dependable on each other, right? so frames come in 56x55 and 56x56 sizes for instance. what's "very long" btw? 13cm? or longer?
i'm not making a fuss of this, but i'm just wondering to myself, which exactly seatpost length (showing out of seattube) and stem length would make people go, "fuck, the frame's small for you"?..

Absolutely irrelevant (unless it must be porn).
Only think that counts is that the bike fits well.
The frame is too small if a 400mm seat post is at the min. insert position and your still riding with your knees next to your ears. Or if your knees touch the handlebars.
Small problem is that track quill stems are available in limited number of lengths. E.g. 3TTT in 58 degrees just in 11 and 12 cm. But now we're talking porn again. Nothing you can't solve with normal components. -

I spent some time measuring up for the mercian. I found any increase in seat tube length would make the stand over height uncomfortable and the length of the 56 frame with a 100mm stem to be the right fit. A 58 would be too long and too tall for me. I find that high bottom brackets, short cranks and spds increase seatpost protrusion in a given frame size and aesthetically I am not a fan of frames with less than 10cm of seatpost showing and nuts on the toptube.
other option is forward sloping top tube I guess...

^ your chainring is infected! it turned red, take it doctor ASAP! =))
@ Dutch Cheese and Joshscott187 - i see your point guys, it's just that i'm after both - the fit and the porn. it makes life a little harder, you know? =))
just a small backstroke is enough to change gear from 1st to 2nd.
when engaging coaster hubs, the gear go down to 1st automatically.
explaining it made it sound harder but in reality, it's stupidly easy.
