Probably the only problem with having a white bike in winter.

Na, the wheels will be that hot that the surounding snow will melt! :-)

Well this time last year my nice white and red Rourke looked in pretty much perfect nick. One winter of riding it every day and the paint is pretty knackered in a fair few places. White really really shows up any paint chips.
Doesn't look great when its dirty either -

wowow amazing!!
Thanks for the specific instructions, I'm definitely gonna try one.
First I need to surf fleabay to find SA light with a switch ho!stick the photos here when you are finished I'm looking forward to it:-)
pretty easy really
only thing is you need to get a SA light with a switch - I think a lot didn't have them, the switch is three way so I think it was for the old battery pack sets where you could switch between the dynamo and batteries
so
(note little black switch)
+
snap connector - 99p in maplins
+
AA battery box - also 99p in maplins - fits easily in the back of the light
then just chop the wire (SA lights had two wires, unlike a lot which had one wire as neutral was fed through the frame), connect the wires from the snap on connector (I'll solder this but you could bodge with some scissors and sellotape tbh) to the end of the wires and replace the bulb with the LED one
the LED replacement bulb has regulation electronics in and takes a wide range of voltages so you don't need to to worry about blowing it
you could just use a 9v battery instead of the battery pack too, don't know which would last longer though
the other good thing about SA lights is they have a hinged front for bulb replacement, so to change the batteries I will just need to open the front and disconnect the snap connector
simples
I'm thinking about making it trickier for myself and using all three points of the switch though, so that one on position is full and one is wired through a resistor for low beam =)
need to finish restoring the chrome first though, I got the front and back for 99p from fleabay but they were badly pitted and it's taken a lot of WD40, coke and brasso so far...

Surly Cross-Check with belt drive Alfine finally completed and rode in on this morning - fantastic.
Can't believe how smooth and quiet it is! not sure i will be riding the Rohloff much now!
Set up is quite tricky though and takes a bit of effort. However if anybody would like any advice I would gladly help

not sure i would pay the extra for another 3 gears? unless it is very hilly or you are towing the spread of gears are plenty fore most..... i think
there will also be a few cheap alfine wheels/hubs becoming available then the 11 speed is launched.
works really well with the Jtek shifter - not sure if they are doing one for the 11?

Looks good, would you expand on your method of set-up and tensioning?

Seems to be ALL about the massive tyres here!
Can anyone service the bearings in a Shimano dynamo hub for me? The generator side has to be very carefully disassembled, and I really don't have the knowhow to get the fucker apart without breaking the internal cable ... Or in fact get it apart at all. I have done the other side fine. I have googled and found some instructions (from another forum) but, to be frank, they are 'greek to me' (no offence intended to any Hellenic cousins here). Somebody. Please...?

The Favorit is back from Armourtex, picked it up this morning and must say, I'm really impressed. Love the 'color'! (Check Armourtex thread for details).
More and more this bike reminds me of Murtle's old track frame, maybe unintentionally, that's what I'm coming up with.
Chris King headset and hope seat clamp to come next week, the rest is pretty much sorted.
It's my new beater. -
