Though you'd be interested.
yes, thanks! - i had pretty much the same inspiration for my bike - is that a double sprocketed freewheel then? I didnt know those existed. looks like i'd have the chainstay clearance for one of those too.

If using two chainrings then as long as teeth add up it should not need much movement in dropouts.
i.e. 36/14 and 32/18 -

Not sure how many companies make the double freewheel but the WI ENO double freewheel isn't cheap if that matters.
It is however very good! -

How easy do you recon it'd be to set up a similar deal with a cassett and spacers (130mm droputs)?...and would you be able to do it with 1/8 chain?

The cassette side would be easy enough and give better manipulation of chainline but a 1/8 chain may be asking a bit much (especially as 1/8th chains are not made with a side to side movement in mind)

Does the side-to-side movement matter with a dingle-type settup? or is it just so its easier to move with less messing about.
In fact I know everyone rates 1/8, but is does it really make a great deal of difference for anything other than the most hardcore of track and bmx use?

Nice, but I don't get it - it looks like sparkly paint but you can see brazing?
-
• #32840
clear coat over blasted steel, same as mine
-
• #32841
its not sparkly paint, its the metal, its been blasted and clearcoated. Just very metallic metal. Kona race light and all that.

Playford do you need a brake lever or the full brake?
I've a straight lever you can have for free. I was given a brake on here for free so might aswell pass the kindness

The only reason I mention side to side is because the chainline will never be straight with dingle setup as the straight chainline will be in between the sprockets and chainrings. A 1/8 chain will make the gap wider so increase the angles.
I'm the wrong person to ask why everyone rates 1/8 as I use 3/32 with no issues at all. -

^ cheers for that... a plan is slowly forming in my mind.

i've just heard of something better!!!
kick back SA 2 speed and a Schlumpf Speed Drive,
cable-less shifting!!!!! 4 speeds!!!!!! -
• #32846
Schlumpf Speed Drives are the nuts - not cheap though
-
• #32847
SA are re-releasing the 2 speed kickback coaster hubs, so in effect, you could easily have a 4 speeds brakeless bike (apart from the coaster).

walk away from the bike, leave it as it is.
never heard of dinglespeed but it might be an idea as town riding and single speed cross are going to need quite different ratios. off the top of my head i'm not sure whether my cranks would take a second ring and i'm running a 130 mm track hub so would have to change that for a 120 mm one that would take 2 sprockets...dont even know how i would go about putting one of those together...
might just be easier to eventually convert it to a full geared bike for full on cross riding.
food for thought though
