Middle aged is probably more accurate.

Yeah. I know. Still. We save money on the hair products.

Van nic's are made in the most part from straight gauge Ti. You'd be better off with a Planet-X or Enigma (who are now extending the use of their better tubing to their lower end frames) for around the same money.
(Just had to beat MrSmyth to that one ;) )

Which we then spend on extra suncream in the summer, and hats in the winter.
Swings and roundabouts.

Not trying to catch you out, but have you ridden plain vs butted and could you actually feel the difference? I know butted is better given the choice but can it actually be noticed in reality?

No hats in winter (well, London winter anyway).
Having sweat steam venting from your helmet at the lights means people tend to give you that little bit of extra space. Win.

It's not the feeling. It's the knowing. No?

late 70s gazelle champion mondial, reynolds 531, not sure I'm keeping the frame though..

Lovely. Do try and keep it.

Dibs if you don't, I love the colour. A proper 70's burnt orange if ever I've seen it!

A fair point.
I can certainly feel it on a steel or aluminium frame. Bikes like the Van nic mistral get great reviews for ride quality, so maybe its not so noticable with Ti. For me, the quality of a tubeset is more than just its base material. But I have no experiance to back this up regarding Ti bikes.

Haha thanks fellas, it's 55 c-t
I'll think about it and put in the classifieds in case;) No thread hijacking intended here;) -

Ha! Have to agree with andyp on the middle-aged point. I can get myself a brakless NJS fixie skidder now to balance it all out. I will finally experience 'zen'.
Smallfurry - I have no idea what you just said. :) All I know is that I'm not spending around the same amount of money as a Planet-X or Enigma offering. It's quite a bit cheaper! It'll be my first geared bike in yonks, doubt it'll be my last. I'll ride it for a while and if I don't like it I can always sell it on. The reviews look good though!

Ti, but cheaper than Planet X?
Is it that Chinese firm?

Just fancied going 'off on one' ;)
Ti is the thinking middled aged man's bike material of chioce. But what is notably cheaper than a PX?
-
• #32768
Ummm, nothing? I'm getting the Van Nicholas Yukon, I'm just getting it for a lot cheaper than a PX!
Thinking middle-aged man's bike material of choice?? 26 going on 56. Bring on the mid-life crisis already. :)

When you reach 30 a rear rack and full guards becomes compulsery anyway.
I've just built a nice solid set of wheels for my gearie-full mudguards-rear rack bike. I have to keep it on the road, to allow me to own frivilous singlespeeds and fixies.

It was my birthday last week, and I plan to spend some money on some totally unwarranted aero carbon rims.
Most guys my age look to buying a sports car they cant expliot. I'm building a bike I cant expliot. Just as pathetic, but healthier and more enviromentally friendly ;)

I don't geddit what's wrong with mud guards? Or are practical items unfashionable, commuting thought the winter without full guards is pure hell!
As an old man?
