  • umm... why are you shitting in wire baskets in an airing cupboard?

but yes, i've found that tesco baskets are top for excrement retention.

  • this is how it looks at the moment (excuse the poor iPhone pic).

what in jehovahs name is going on with your bars. look flaccid.

  • How is it that I always seem to have barends and bits of tape coming out o my asre, but yet when I'm actually wrapping bars there nowhere to be found!

    rant over... for now

  • Beater build, love this frame, may have to strip it and re-do it as shiney at a later date, for now it has to avoid envious glances while I'm at work (in Cheltenham where, as the chap in LBS said earlier while chatting, 'they tend to nick suspension'). All cheap parts, although I'm very pleased with the Campag cranks. Still short of a stem and front brake (ordered), concerned by where the axle sits in the drop outs. The front ring is 52, the rear 19, and the chain seems to be one or even just half a link too short, so the axle sits very far forward in the drop out, and the chain is as taut as very taut thing. Is it safe?

  • doesnt look particularly safe to me, half link?

  • Perhaps you should try with the Gusset Slink half-link? If you want, I've got the 53 Triomphe/Victory chainring.

  • Had to give the Gazelle back to it's owner so I am going to use this as my single speed run around.

  • Last week I was sorting the various bike parts I have and I realized I had everything to build a second bike as a beater, except the frame. I asked a friend who is learning to braze and has a lot of old frames lying round. At the time he just finished this very strange bike : he brazed two damaged CBT Italia frame together, one track frame for the rear part, one road frame for the front part. As the two bikes were not the same size (the road one was significantly bigger), the final geo is strange but the bike rides very well and seems properly aligned. I call the result "the FrankenBike" and I really love to ride it.

  • you know you could get slapped for using mavic super rare starfish crank on a beater?.. just kidding, not too shabby! :)

Good shout: clearly not right is it. Is it a bugger to fit? I have a proper chain splitter but if there is one job I hate more than setting up gears its fucking about with chains

As for the chainring, tell me more. I know the crank os Triomphe, isn't the ring?

  • just unwrapped my latest project sent by george sportif, for the girlfriend to pop into town on and do her shopping etc,

it's a 5 speed, 26 x 1 3/8th wheeled townsend mixte, i have a feeling that she won't get on with the saddle so she'll probably end up with a nice sprung brooks, so i'll brown tape the bars and get some new gumwall tyres to match i think, it's a bit tarnished and the chrome is pitted but a bit of elbow grease should sort that! does anyone have any tips on cleaning the brake hoods? they're off- white with dark black freckling spots, if not where should i look for some new ones?

Nice forget the brooks Wife had one on the Pashley and hated it I replaced it with a tan wsp Charge saddle now she has then on all her bikes.

  • yeah, I only said brooks as we have a few just lying around that i could just throw on, but out of interest was it the ladle she's on?

Those cranks are fly (sorry, being watching re-runs of Fresh prince) although do seem to have an excess of unnecessary metal

  • I started with this hand-painted with dulux frame a few months ago...

Now currently at this point ( abit further to go until finished) getting there...
    (sorry about the shitty graffiti)

  • I kn ow this won't make sense, but the new paintjob makes it look smaller!

    its lovely tho.

  • Sounds good... Pix?
