@ kid scruff - that looks lovely. I'm not a big fan of the clearcoat thing, but on that I recon it'd work quite well.
I'd try and keep it as simple as poss, bc once you chuck on the front rack, mud guards, etc. it'll start to get quite busy. Other colour ideas... def have a different colour for the headtube to show of the lugs, and prolly luglining as well... maybe black wt red head tube?
Also for practicality you could also go 3speed SA hub. Mos def don't go the cottered crank route if form over functions your priority - some strada-type ones will still fit, or those ones the Paselys have?
Can't wait to see it progress!

What bar tape, Joe? Black, white (if you change the saddle - that Regal(?) one doesn't tickle my fancy)?
Or maybe 80s sick stuff?

My current project is downloading the iPhone SDK, which they've somehow padded out to 2GB. Haven't coded anything in years, since finishing my MSc. Might have a tinker.
PS. 3,000th post. Do I get a gold watch or something?

OK well here is my first ever fixed project! :-)
I finished it today and I'm already a girl in love.
I found the bike in my cousin's shed who was about to auction it off. I've left the frame alone, chainset, handlebars and front brake are also original (after much cleaning!), nice new wheels and cog I got off here.
I know it's not the most beautiful bike in the world but I'm pleased, think it looks pretty trendy (it's for a uni runaround) and would appreciate any comments :-)

Ha ha, yep was hoping I'd get away without, but after having a quick spin I swapped my pedals to some with straps about 5 mins after taking the pic!
Darn, no more pointy shoes for me.... ;-)

Something wonderful happened to me today, and I now believe in God.
I travelled from Coventry to Leeds to collect this little bargain with my brother, from ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=320543818769&ru=http://search.ebay.co.uk:80/search/search.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26_trksid%3Dm37%26satitle%3D320543818769%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1#ht_552wt_1139When we arrived, the nice gentleman also produced a crash damaged bike which he wanted rid of. I asked how much. He said 50. I said "DONE" quite promptly.
It was a columbus 7005 aluminium Tifosi with a 9-speed ultegra groupset, with open pros. The extent of the crash damage is 3 spokes on the front wheel, the LH shifter, and 2 new cables. I promptly robbed these parts from my current 9-speed ultegra bike here:
So I now have a lovely alu beauty for the summer, for 50 pounds, and you lucky LFGSS people may inherit the bike above. Pictures of the Tifosi in the light tomorrow.
So the 531 frame and alloy forks, Ultegra RD + FD, Ultegra hubs on CXP 22s, acor brakeset, Dura-Ace 7400 chainset with BB, chain, seatpost from the above bike are now available. And conveniently, my brother has to collect some things from London in a pickup later this week....so, make me an offer before i stick these in the classifieds.
Also available, the predecessor to the Coppi that my brother won on ebay:
Cannondale with 9 speed 105 groupset. RH shifter is playing up, so included in the sale is a scuffed-but-working-order Ultegra shifter. Offers around £270. Again, in the classifieds tuesday, you saw it here first!

Go freewheel Lemon
Maybe...im still a bit scared of freewheels, I can see the pro's when it comes to play, but I like the immediacy of fixed handling.
