  • The fork is fine, I just simply pump up the fork enough to make it rigid if I don't do much off roading.

P.s. I don't think it's necessary to quote a whole post to reply to a recent post.

It is a weight thing ... I find the bike also responds better when out of the saddle, my marin is a heap of junk compared to your bike which looks well looked after. I think ur Kona and My Marin were basically competing models at the time. Thought my Marin is used a commuter bike rather than anything else ... I have slick tyres and running 65 GI.

I love the speed of having a fast hybrid and the handling of a pure mountain bike.

On the quote ... I was being just being lazy.

  • yeah whack some project 2's and a SS kit on it, would be awesome

    :D.

I got a salsa fork and it kicks arse ... project 2's would have been my first choice since they are legendary but couldn't find any for V-Brakes anywhere.

  • they don't make track frames any more, it's a german company, http://www.corratec.de/

Corratec never made frames. It's a label of wholesaler IKO in Rosenheim, Germany.
They had a line of road and MTB bikes and sponsored some teams and individual racers.
I guess the only thing that belongs to Corratec/IKO here is the decal set.

But hey, didn't Bruno Risi ride Corratec labeled bikes for a couple of years?
So, it's not a shame to ride with Corratec letters on your bike.

  • Just sold my last project to start another!

Here's the old one, a 1980 Raleigh Record with 27s:

Basically just restored it. Tried it fixed but found it a little long and wanted to run 700s, which didn't really suit it.

This is the (presumably) slightly newer Raleigh Record (Ace?) with 700s. Much tighter frame and a LOT lighter than the last one. This one is 531, where as I think the old one was 501. This one also has a standard bb thread, where the old one was Raleigh 26 tpi, which was a bit of a bastard.

I've borrowed the wheels off my other bike and the cranks are temporary, hence why the left crank is a mtb crank in 170 with about an inch of 'Q factor', as opposed to the 175 road crank on the drive side! I'm hoping to set it up with a more classic look - some low ,ish, profile rims (maybe grey) and then a brown saddle and bar tape, on either old shaped road drops or track drops.
The paint is actually metalic blue with a lovely glitter in it, but my only camera is on my phone and is therfore shit!

Oh, and here's another one I restored which is far too small for me and is now going up for sale. We think it's 531 but there are no stickers on it. It's really light, which is why I think it's either 531 or better! It's got a really strange setup as well, such as the 44/48 chainset and 15-19 freewheel. Possibly a custom built TT bike. Also is has 010112 stamped on the bb, so might be part of a limited run.

Had to put in a spare seatpost to try it out as it's 53.5 tt and 48 st!

  • Decided to go and have a butcher in the shed for my old mountain bike that I used to worship when I was 16, my trusty butted steel Kona Hahanna with Marzocchi Bomber fork that I remember spending 1 years saving up £180 for.

Methinks it's time for disc on the front with a new Deore XT 9 speeds rear and a 38t crankset, as I love the frame and fork, what other upgrade would be worth doing on the Kona?

Man I forget how reasonably light it is, had a blast down Wimbledon Common, need to check if the forum do MTB ride.

If theres nothing wrong with it and you dont know how to upgrade it why spend money for the sake of it?

thinking about it....you could get a nicer bottle cage as well....

  • Well i decided to go a different route with the univega i posted a few pages back.

This frame was in shit shit shit condition when i found it. Bent fork, rusted, stickers all over it. anyway, i decided to strip it raw and paint the lugs black and pen the lug lines white.

here's the finished product. It's looks amazing. nicest project i've done on the cheap for sure.

As usual, ick the climages for pharger lotos.

this is the only color on the bike. it stands out, but it's a really nice accent.

sorry don't have a full photo yet. iphones in the dark basement don't take well to distance photos and i only finished it last night. Still need a rear brake and maybe tidy up the cock pit with some tape or new grips.

  • Wow. That is a LOT of seatpost.
    Nice looking bike though

  • ^^most of the cables are too short, the black on the top tube is meh, and the brakes look like they are likely a rough stop, and the seat/stem is too high (bike too small). All minor tweaks, but sorry it doesn't look nice as is. All minor issues,but.... I know he said the bike is too small and it's for sale. A smaller owner would do it well.

not trying to be a dick. sorry if it seems that way. now someone can chew my previous post apart! haha....

honestly the ONLY real issue i have is how short the cables are. just peeves me. the other shit is whatever.

    Nice

  • Nearly there...

  • looks shit.

  • Are you saving weight so it walks better?

  • looks shit.

    +1

    Nice looking bike though

It's for sale if you like it enough!

And to Jersey: this cables are exactly as I was given them, apart from the addition of some lube and a bit of a tweak up. I was trying it to see how I liked it before I put any money into it, so when I decided it wasn't for me (due to me being tall!) I didn't do anything because I though somebody else might like it as a nice prject.
