yep, if i am going to built her a bike, I might as well go all the way to do it properly.

Just saying if i said track-ends to my girlfriend she'd look straight through me. She wants a bike I'm just going to look out for a tiding Peugeot?raleigh frame in good retro paint condition and chuck some ss action on to it. chuck a basket on it and boom probably under a ton.

Well, normally I would build a simple beater, simple but nice and functional, but I wanted to do a properly done build, hence the extra care and attention to the frame, to put it simply; it should be enough to be put in bike porn, it going to be a mixture of classic and modern.

It should look like a bike that Raleigh actually made as it is when they're still making the Raleigh Flyer, an original build that only my girlfriend will have, as long it's unique and beautiful, she'll love it either way (I know her long enough to figure out what exactly she want), and knowing her she'll actually appearance it as it should.

(the blaze on for the rear brake, derailleur, etc. will be removed as well).

Not trying to take anything away from the build or what you want to do to it for the missus, just making a point that no need to over do it. If I were you leave the drop outs as they are, paint a itnice colour etc and leave the drop out conversion-she'll love you whatever-and don';t forget a basket-women love that shit!

Trust me, she can tell a simple easy conversion that usually take a week to make a miles off and a decent build like this easily (below), like how easily she can tell between a cheap Primark jean and an expensive Diesel jean.

Primark and Diesel are made in the same sweatshop in southern China.

maybe you would be better starting with a dutch style bike with a pedal back brake. It will come with track ends and the relaxed geometry for alot less money. Then you can get it resprayed the way you like it.

I gotta lot of respect for that build you're doing Ed. She definitely wants a racing bike then? I couldn't get mine to go anywhere near one. I ended up stripping and rebuilding an old Raleigh Caprice. She had to have it in Tiffany Aqua. :( Ohhh.

My lady would love something like that Caprice! Did you get it from fleaBay? And how much did it cost all-in-all? I'm trying to steer her away from Pashleys and the cheaper Gitane look-a-like. She ain't feeling racing bikes unfortunately so it'll have to stay classy and "continental".

She already have a Brompton, but now that she managed to get a decent sized flat in the middle of Clerkenwell, she have room for a normal bike, why are you all assuming that I don't know what my girlfriend want?! it's not like I've only been with her for a couple months.

Thing about a step-thru bike beside the fact it was solely designed in the early 20th century for women with big fuck-off skirt and dress, step-thru bike is noticeably heavier due to needing extra strength so frame may be thickened to compensate the lack of triangle, it's also not as stiff as a normal triangle bike, especially if the bike hasn't been thickened or strengthened, it would be quite flexible.

trust me, I spend a lots of time planning and organising it.

to be fair i just took what they had available as my mate was coming in a few weeks and there wasnt time to get a custome colour of my choice... checked the ral chart and was gonna go for a metallic red and build it red, black and white - chicago bulls, but i like the orange, will stand out and maybe get noticed by drivers (and hot chicks)... gonna build it with blue and white, new york knicks style...
