  • ??!! What about when you're climbing or needing to use the bike in anger?

Why do you think every other road bike has hoods?

I understand that, but considering ill be only using it in and around london as my commute bike, i dont think there will be to many day where ill use it in anger or climbing hills. Riding on hoods in London traffic can be knuckle scrapping....

    Again, just personal preference.

Like I said. Apart from the dos and don'ts of building up a Mercian, for your own comfort you should fit risers. There's no point in having drops with short levers - it's too cramped.
And also there are different styles of drop bars. Also some can be quite narrow.

  • Does anyone have a 15t 1/8 campagnolo cog by any chance?

Fair point, but having ridden it over the last few day, it feels really comfortable. And looks great to boot. :)

  • wait are those track bars? they are track bars, aren't they? escaped my radar first time around.

  • I was using track drops on my Pinarello, because I had them and they looked good.
I swapped them for proper road bars. They are wider, but much more comfortable.
And I've never scraped anything - ok, I don't push in between the busses on Oxford Street.

    Criteriums
    (road/track)

  • yep, Cinelli Crits

  • What about some crosstop levers and then you can have drops as well.

    Meh...

  • Bonobo, your setup is right for you - and it does look good :-) I had a similar setup on the Viner, very comfy.

  • That's me and here's the post -

    Hmmm, tempting... still for sale?

  • Go for it

  • Mercian = NO.

  • CG I've been meaning to rep you for ages for your no nonsense recent approach, so consider this that moment.
each post for the past week has cracked me up somewhat.

  • I've been busy with work and playing Call of Duty so brevity has been the order of the day.

i find riding in track drops absolutely uncomfortable, if i ever put them on my bike, it would only be for the looks. Same goes for Cinelli Criterium, even though they're wider, still same curve would not allow me to hold on to them properly when sprinting/going uphill. And drops themselves are way too low.
Of course, all of this is true only for road riding, as i only come near track when i need to buy some equipment :))

  • Meh...

  • You guys, let him be! At least it is distinctive, there's so many Mercians around these days haha
