  • Old Brooks saddle finish it off nicely, the top tube is actually sloped;

    that saddle looks uncomfortable?

  • that saddle looks uncomfortable?

    +12

  • Saddle may be a bit uncomfortable but it'll do for a dozen or so miles, it's never going to be a bike that I'll ride everyday in mind.

stem obviously way too short at 70mm, but it's the only one I can find before the ride with the ability of flipping it upside down.

To me much as like frame, saddle etc ,should be all out period for the frame, Williams cranks? Gb stem bars ? Bayliss, airlite, Gb brakes if need be. Half way house looks wrong with modern.

  • Unfortunately it's never going to be a 'period-corrected' bicycle, just a bicycle that I can take out without worrying about the fragility of certain component, like the Airlite track hubs for example.

  • will go nicely with some American cabbage.

  • it is a bike, if you ride it enough, it will get chips/dings.....ride it!

I'm all for that, really I understand. There's being anal and then the extreme opposite is just not giving a shit and either is fine. I hover somwhere around the middle.

However, when the paintjob is this good, then it does deserve SOME respect...maybe that's just me.

  • just upgraded the build with some ourys
and I know about the valve caps, but I so like that* gorgeous baby blue* touch

  • Dem be some sooooft wheels for the road son.

  • That's a bloody upright position for a track bike, why so?

Even if you put drops on that stem it would still be pretty upright :)

  • Finished my first build/ assembly a couple of weeks ago, only took 6 months! I Changed the saddle a couple of days ago as the prevous one destroyed me in ways I care not to mention, this ones super comfy. Enjoying riding it now.

    Cheers.

Its because of the 650 rear wheel. It does something about geometry and maybe size too.

    Riding it on the road?

This is the "ride to the pub" setup for riding along the shore here in Marseille. I switch the stem to a 110mm, downward one with 3TTT alu drops for longer distances on the road.

  • schwinn is on hold.

these bikes are all for other people. I posted on my Facebook that i'll build anyone a bike for the summer for the cost of parts only. Needless to say, i've always got projects going on. There's a junkyard bike shop with maybe 500 old bikes piled up in my part of the world. I take the people there and we pick out the shit. Then i take the bike home and make it run smoothly. I don't do gears just because i try to keep the cost near 100 USD, and old shitty gears aren't fun. there are some real gems in the shop. There's a woodrup sitting there wasting away, countless Miyatas, there's a Quinn, a gazelle 12 speed, tons of 3 speeds, and of course tons of junk.

this is in progress (click to enlarge). It's going to be very very pretty when built up. It's a peugeot, clearly. Paint is in excellent shapt. almost not rust anywhere. just a bit down by where a kickstand was placed. Pain in the fuck to find a seatpost that fit. 24.5mm? WTF? Was able to find some nice wheels with some kind of mavic double walled rims. Dished the wheel over. Single speed. two brakes. 3 speed bars. Going to be very pretty.

now the bike in back is actually the most interesting, and the first english lightweight 3 speed i've decided to pay attention to. I've always found these bikes to be more cumbersome than they are worth, but this one caught my eye and might be the first of many 3 speed that i work on. It's a Huffy Sportsman, which is actually a raleigh. The bike actualy weights only about 25 lbs! I haven't worked out the exact date yet, but the Sturmey in back is a 69 SW. All information on these hubs say the SW is a pain in the ass and was discontinued in 59 ater only a few years production. I'm damn sure this says 69 SW though, although i could be wrong. I'll look closer when home. Anyway the hub works when shifted on the stand. Haven't ridden the bike yet because it needs so much work. It's getting proper 3 speed bars and lots of love. If it works out well i'm gonna try to get together a better condition 3 speed in the near future with a better condition old Sturmey AW.

  • Very nice jersey - what's the plan - gears? drops? moustache bars?

  • Aroogah, i added some info after you posted, as you can see. i'm only saying this so people don't think you can't read.

  • Roughly when was the frame made? Straight fork?
    Wannabe framespotter, me.

    ..

  • i think a yellow cinelli alter will go very well with that LOOK!
as it looks like a 1 inch steerer

  • Cinelli alter is for aheadset right ? That would mean using an adaptor for the fork, I'm not sure it would go well with the frame and its age.

  • Thanks jersey.

    The girlfriend has this...

Early 80s BSA Ladies Racer (also Raleigh). It too weighs a ton.
