  • why not?

have they excepted responsability for the damage?

    **Pedant hat on*****

    Accepted responsibility

  • A certain bikeshop fitted a new headset and forks to a frame of mine. Two weeks later a couple of crimps started appearing at the front of my headtube, one at the top, one at the bottom. These turned into small cracks at which point I took it in to Chas Roberts. He said it was because the headtube hadn't been reamed properly for the headset. A lot of stress going through that part of the frame. I would always get it done properly now as it is cheaper in the long run.

zeeee headset is already pressed properly! it's just the fork that isn't....

that said i just called another shop and the gave me a reasonable price. it's kind of far away, but i guess i'll do it properly. project pushed to the weekend now.

    Thank you sir :)

  • Why don't you want to name and shame?

  • Sorry for being a spelling cunt I just couldn't help it this time. I've just conducted a ceremonial burning of the pedant hat so it shouldn't come back.

Unless its a phoenix pedant hat

  • @ Matty - Because I know how threads develop when this sort of thing comes out and it's boring. I've settled my differences with them anyway!

well thats all i wanted to know, wether they had "Accepted responsibility" and would pay for the repair.

  • Yes, it's all good :-) Waiting for repair from Chas, who's fixing my headtube. Can't wait, decided to get it enamelled as well at the same time.

    ok great.

  • It's just the fork. Cups are already pressed and all of that is the correct size... the frame is a track bike, but not NJS. think I'm gonna go at the fork with a magic marker, caliper, and file.

    bad idea!

  • alright alright. you prickly fawks. i'll get it done properly. i figure if four people tell me nay, it's nay.

  • Well, I suppose if they admitted their error and rectified it, then it's all cool.

...still, would have been a great bit of popcorn :(
think I will go have a read of the ASM's crank meets angle grinder thread to cheer myself up.

  • Anyone got any long term review of the planetx rear hub?any good? Also can a freewheel be screwed onto a double fixed hub? Ta

  • the planetx hubs are perfectly reliable, especially when they're those taiwanese mass produced one, it's very reliable to the point that you don't even need to spunk out for a Phils Wood hubs.

and yes, you can, a fixed/fixed hubs is a better investment, especially if you accidentally strip the thread on one of them.

  • get the 15 pound one not the planet x pista

  • Versus the system ex?

  • They are the same, System EX, Formula, Zenith, SJS, Ambrosio etc.

  • Harry Major, what with all this talk of yummy components for yer crosscheck. Is that a fukkin Halfords Massload rack on there? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! We even chuck those away at the bike recycling scheme, when they come off knackered worn-out subways.
Tubus, please! For the sake of all those who will look at this potentially beautiful machine. Offend not mine eyes with the upthrowings of the big H.

  • just need a new seat!

you need to tidy your room young man.

Those mitres make me want to cry. Please tell me they are cut with some cunning uber-tech machinary.

so possibly we may get a picture of him in action

  • Can anyone suggest some nice bar end brake levers for my Nitto RB-021s? I know nothing about them. Cheap would be nice...

  • Robin's response

"When I'm grown up, I want to be uber-tech."
