  • islipaway, lovely bike.

Did you find those tyres a bitch to get on? Did you cheat and use levers despite the warning in the intructions? Must need hands of steel to get those things on without tools.

(edit: they are the 'open tubular' clinchers, aren't they?)

They are veloflex pave, didn't read anything about not using levers, did I fuck up?

  • Thanks!

Yes, white straps are one of the things I'm yet to get. Can't really affort the matching front wheel atm but may get one in a couple of months, mismatch will have to do for now.

Don't get white straps. Too try hard.

I've always found Veloflex really easy to mount. If you're using levers, you probably have poor technique (or big rims)

  • It's taken me about eight months to get it finished, but I finally took my Pennine out for a ride this weekend. It was worth the wait. Here are the before and after shots.

It's a late 50s/early 60s frame, with a Williams C34 crankset, Bayliss Wiley axle/TDC cups bb, original Philippe stem with Philippe Professionnel bars, original TDC headset, Campagnolo Nuovo Record seatpost, original Lycett Swallow saddle, and original GB Sport Mark II brake caliper. The other bits are more modern.

  • would it be such a crime too strip a low end viscount i got of retro_di_corsa the other week
    only cost me 20 squid?

  • It's not a crime. Merely an offence.

  • Nearly done.

the bars are 100% ridiculous. change them for the bikes sake if not for ours

  • So, yeah, my spider is fucked, I was hoping it wasn't, but it is. New cranks time I think. Let me consult the chainline list.

  • That Puch looks like a dog's dinner!

    Nice one.

    puchs are ugly and heavy

This is mine, nearly finished - just need a few little bits & a tweak or two... What do you think?

I think I don't like it. You did ask.

  • Cold as ice... I wonder what you would say about some of the true abominations on here...

  • Most of the time people don't ask. I'm in a funny mood at the moment.
    Sorry.

  • Haha you don't need be to sorry if you don't like it - you're entitled to your opinion, though as I don't have time to scan through all your posts to find something you do like I don't know whether you not liking it is a good or bad thing?

Doesn't matter either way - if we all liked the same things then life would be (a) boring and (b) confusing when we leave the pub.

  • IAmNotARobot, I like your Genesis Flyer mate.

  • Flipping heck, are you talking about one of these: http://www.evanscycles.com/products/genesis/flyer-520-2010-road-bike-frame-set-ec021327?utm_source=froogle&utm_medium=froogle&utm_campaign=froogle

Never seem that before in my life, does that mean I can claim they copied me as my frame is older? :-)

  • I dont like the rear wheel, would be nice if it matched the front (I'm too old for non-matching wheels maybe).

Other than that, looks like a nice bike.

  • My new project is a Cross Check utility / touring / town / post-apocalyptic bike
    With suitably shit iPhone Pictures....

I just ordered the rest of the components. Shimano SLX tranmission, 105 rear hub, Hope pro 3 front, Mavic A719 rims (still to be ordered). I need to sort a rear canti as well. The front is Paul, but getting another will take a while, and I need a rear brake to be going on with, so I'm thinking avid Shorty 6? Still a bit torn on tyres. Marathon plus 35c or Rando hyper are the two main contenders. Oh and I have one of these on its (long) way for the front:

    Win :)

I also need to sort out mudguards. I don't want nasty chromo plastic things. Some proper nice metals ones, hammered would be nice. But other then those way over priced and shit Danish ones I can't find anything in the UK. Honjo are expensive with shipping from the states. Any suggestions?

P.S. Need a kick stand two. A double I think!

  • YES. Cool project.

As for mudguards. Velo Orange? Feshtripe can get anything you want from Velo Orange for decent money (even if it's not listed on the website)

  • fork arrived (Stratos NJS). Seeing this iridescent pink fork with the black parts is a very sexy color combo. might just.... anyway going to build the bike up tonight and ride it with the mismatched colors for a bit. see how everythign comes together. get it painted next month.

decals arrived. silver outline, transparent fill.

  • nice surly. a couple of feelings....

    1. i would have gone full 105 for the drivetrain. at least for the rear mech.
    2. there's nothing "shit" about a brand new surly.
  • Is this your 2nd Waterford?

  • jersey, that pink would look nice all over with the black components

  • YES. Cool project.

    You sir, are a star.
Just ordered some lovely VO Zepplin fenders. Sweeet.

  • DMC, no. giving it a facelift. i inadvertently took it off a 3 foot drop and destroyed my fork. weak suace, i know... and was completely my fault. it's been waiting for a rebuild all winter. i've been putting it on the back burner for a while because i just ride this shit single speed on the snowy and salty winter roads. sun is out now, so....

another detail is that a new waterford fork is like 400USD, so i just went with the first NJS fork that had the right steerer tube lenght off the NJS blog. I was unsure about what i was going to get from them, but it's complete quality. just needs paint. really clean quality fork.
