  • So you managed to get the front Shamal then, Crane?
Sorry, I've only picked up the ones from Marco the other day and decided to keep the wheelset as a whole, as the finish is slightly different to the Cosmic.

    this bike is depressing me

  • yea it's a total fucking mess. might be the angle, but it looks like it even has track bars on it.

  • Yes, I have to admit.

  • Oh Kris...

  • Yes, I have to admit.

shape it up! it's a beuatiful bike, but needs gears and all that jazz. until you can get gears on it, hang it on a wall.

  • not just 'gears' the right gears, wheels, seatpost etc

  • that ciocc is nice!
what kind of more exotic frame you want to replace that with? (i think the ciocc is exotic enough allready)

  • A better frame (SLX) with more chrome, inner cable routing on top tube, and perhaps a more elaborate paint job. I am sure sooner or latter will find something...in fact I have a very nice Columbus SLX frame but -unfortunately - is a bit too large for me.

@ the smiling-buddha: I have a set of Campagnolo record tubular rims ready to build with the current Chorus hubs and planning to do so in the near future. Veloflex tubs will then be fitted.

    Thanks for the comments.

Indeed. How many Ciocc's do you see around? Not many.

  • That Ciocc was the highlight of my morning coffee browse.

  • Indeed. How many Ciocc's do you see around? Not many.

i saw a top notch example locked up in the City yesterday.
It was stunning and with correct period gears and all.
    Ciocc's are awesome.

this last post was directed at a pinarello... whoops.
That needs some gears- a nice victory groupset- mmmmmmm

  • Edd13, your bike is Cioccolicious! Very nice indeed. I particularly like the headbadge shot, which shows off the beautiful caliper and pearl paint. What's it like to ride?

  • No, Ciocc is pretty rear.
But there are plenty frames from the same company with different decals. No Ciocc though.

  • Glad you like the cog ;-)

The bike looks cool. Hope you had a good ride back to Hackney. Sorry if I seemed a bit rude earlier, I could've easily fitted the cog for you there and then.

    Got a dissertation on!

That's alright, understand! I was a total mess when I had my dissertation on. And don't worry about the cog, I ended up needing a longer chain anyway to get it to fit so had to pick one up on the way home.

    Cheers though!

  • @ Dutch Cheese

I am still a bit suspicious about the exact provenance of the frame, especially due to the Columbus 'rivernizato' sticker in the seat tube. The seller tried to convince me that the frame was 100% original. The fact the frame came with no laquer didn't help to dissipate my doubts either. Sheldon Brown mentions that there were several frames in the mid-late 80s labelled as Ciöcc. This can be perhaps one of them.

    @ Superprecise

The quality of the frame is good but not outstanding. Classic Italian race geometry. I find it quite comfortable to ride, especially in quiet country roads with relatively poor tarmac surface. The frame feels solid and, surprisingly, quite responsive when climbing. Steering is fine, not itchy at all, due to the relatively 'generous' rake for a race bike, hence why it is so comfy in poor surfaces. Excellent for relaxed rides and training. I will not consider this bike suitable for racing nowadays.

  • Great answer, thanks.

I took the tubs off and fitted clinchers - running veloflex with kevlar inserts - on both my Pinni and my Cinelli - I stopped carrying a puncture kit at least in the city - yes transfer the Chorus parts to a later SLX frame and build the Cioc up campy record ;)

  • Chicken, leek and ham pie.

Some great (the ciocc is great .. am I the only person in the world who hates those brakes though?), mental (max), nice (I actually like the Mash) and fun / well executed things (walrus' plugover) over the last few pages... but this ^^^ is STUNNING! LUST. Repped, fucking great work, well, is it - I like what you've done with the folded-in edge, very unusual, works so well with a classic white pie-dish. Did you blind bake or what? Is it flakey or short? Hope you enjoy it, is it for a special racing purpose or just general nourishment? I hope one day to be able to post a *project *as good as that.

Yesterday I went to see Dave Yates. I am going to be poor soon, I may have to sell some things. What a sound bloke, I really liked him. I'm getting a modern bike! Wooo! Apart from the fact that it's steel ;)... 853, semi-compact, all-fillet brazed, unthreaded 1" fork, fixed, bit of room for biggish tyres, some eyes. Can't bloody wait!

  • No, Ciocc is pretty rear.

I remember at least Concorde (some of the high end models), being Ciocc frames.
I would never imagine the other way around though (other makes being labeled as Ciocc).

  • My last year's winter project: Ciöcc frame fully equipped with Campagnolo Chorus.

^ Love the straps! And everything else of course but that goes without saying. I just keep looking at the straps.

  • Some great (the ciocc is great .. am I the only person in the world who hates those brakes though?)
You are a brake hating hipster and I claim my 5 pounds.

  • Busted.

  • Indeed. How many Ciocc's do you see around? Not many.

not many! I was going to comment on the many record-parts on your chorus build, but then read the blog...
I do believe that dutch Concorde (pdm-team) are build by ciöcc

I got a concorde aquila from 87 with 1st generation chorus allover (the ciôccs cranks pedals and seatpost are that generation too i believe), will post if I get some pics taken.

  • Yes but you can't cling onto the past forever... there are races to be won!
