one of the guys at atlantic boulevard used to make a lot of the rixon frames. He did one that I had which was a 90's 531

Finally got the 29er finished off. Despite the monster truck looks, I reckon it only weighs around 8.5 kg. Should be fun.
Shite phone pics cuz I'm lazy, and all of our cameras need charging.
Indoor pics cuz its dark outside most of the time.I'll try and take some nice 'natural light' pics the next time I see the sun.
Then the true hideousness of the mismatched componentry will shine through.I've been watching this one with a bit of jealousy. Looks like great fun, and the belt drive is a cheeky idea. Let us know how it rides.

Hi I'm new to lfgss, I have just finished building up a new fixie so I figure why not show it here. It's an old Holdsworth Monsoon frame that was really rusty so I got it resprayed. I've built it up with basic components mainly stuff off my previous fixie. I tried to keep it old school racer looking.
I have another bike, it's not fixed but it's kinda unusual as it's a low pro. I've just finished getting it up and running as well. So here are some photos of that as well.
I think this is super nice.... The Holdsworth, can I ask how old the frame was, was it made for 27" wheels? and if so what wheels and brakes are you using?

That Monsoon looks like a 1958-59 (the fork lugs changed around that time.
Definitely built for 27" wheels.

I'm going crazy waiting to take it out, to see how it rides myself. There's alot going on TBH.
- The frame is not an OTP Spot but a custom* handmade 'Longboard', which is bloody light for a steel 29er frame, and made from a selection of high end tubing. Should be a nice riding frame.
- The 29er geometry is interesting, to say the least, when applied to someone as vertically challenged as myself. But the fit feels spot on (need some km's in the saddle though).
- The belt drive feels seriously smooth, and is complemented by the fast pick up of the trials hub. The drivechain feels very responsive indeed.
- Its fully rigid (as 29ers should be IMHO), with a very light front end. Hopefully the big hoops and fat rubber will smooth out the trail some.
- The wheels are as light as I dared make them, all things considered. The Velocity Blunts are very light for their width, and are laced with a mixture of Revolution and Super-comp (disc side) spokes, to light weight pro II hubs.
- The finished bike is very light (<8.5Kg), due to the carbon fork, lightweight wheels, lack of gears, belt drive etc. Hopefully this together with the traction from the large tyres should make it a good climber.
I know its a bit off to bang on about your own bike like this (sorry), but I've been putting this together for a while, and am going nuts waiting for the trails to defrost. With any luck, I wont have fecked it up, so that I can start entering some local XC/mountain trail events with it.
(*not custom for me though)

I'm not sure about the frame age. But I think it's probably a late 1950's early 1960's Monsoon. Yip it was made for 27" wheels. Although I'm running 700c wheels. I used some old Suzue hubs from my previous bike and laced Mavic Open Pro rims to them. Because the frame is a 27" and I'm using 700c wheels I have to use long drop brakes, I'm using Tektro R556 brakes on this bike.
Hope that answers your questions.

Now to transfer the bits from my current frame.

KC - seems you're already aware that Bramptons are very desirable. Take care of em! Or sell em now for mucho cash.
That holdsworth is very nice, cool lugs. The decals are bloody marvellous!

Armourtex in the end,
I would loved to have taken the good advice I was given and sent it to the guys at Atlantic Boulevard, but I my pocket wouldn't allow it.
I did the waterslides this morning myself, and given it a layer of wet lacquer to hold them fast.
Headset and BB installed - I just need to grab a saddle, clips, chain tomorrow and it should be done! (Well hopefully...)That looks nice! Can you say more about the lacquer? What product exactly you used, did you have to lacquer the whole frame or localy only?
Thanks
Loic

I've been lacing my trick wheels today. For my first time I think it went great!

That looks like a lot of fun!
Really nice collor sceme that frame has, not a real fan of white components on MTB's to be honest. I'm shopping for a costum rigid singlespeed 29er for a while now and Spot crossed my mind a couple of times. I'm currently riding this: http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3113/3188336789_be7176e5f2_b.jpg and am thinking about a simular geometry. Really looking forward on riding a steel rigid.
What were you riding previously? Do you got any experience with the X2 Race Hope's already, saw a sweet deal on the normal hope tech X2, still am in a bit of a doubt. Anyways, hope you'll have some good fun very soon!I've been watching this one with a bit of jealousy. Looks like great fun, and the belt drive is a cheeky idea. Let us know how it rides.

It's funny how your taste fades in and out of stuff, and what provides fun changes. My track bike used to be my go-to bike for a laugh, when A-to-B wasn't an issue and I had a few hours to kill. Now it's the MTB. I'm sure next month it'll reverse again, but at the moment I can't beat getting muddy and jumping about the place.

All the Hope stuff is new to me. It seems really well made, and was straight forward to install. A far as you can test something riding around the house, I'm glad I went with it. I'll do a mini review of the bike when I get to take it out.
The frame is stunning with a nice metal flake that the pic doesnt show. It matches the nice Hope gun metal componentry nicely. The low-rent looking white parts were purchased with my tongue pushed firmly in my cheek, I'll own up to that much. The nasty decals on the carbon parts might end up being marker penned, if I cant find a better way of getting rid of them. Its not a pretty bik thats for sure.
Nice Niner BTW!
