  • A freind of mine just picked up this Goff for £230 off ebay!!
everything except the saddle, seatpost and wheels... what a bargain.

the bar tape and brake levers will be the first to go obviously.... and these wheels are just temporary, i'm trying to persuade him to get some royce hubs on omega v's.

it's nothing to do with me, just thought it was pretty nice frame.

Not surprising though really, those Goff frames are worse than worthless, you normally have to pay people to take them away.

  • KC, Take to Dave Marsh about that build. He will furnish you with all you could ever need.

  • ha!
worse than wothless how?... i've only seen a few photos, but it looks pretty nice to me.

  • Going to build it up as the Team rode with campagnolo Record not to sure about the Brooks though may go for a black Regal.

  • 1957 Carlton Professional Team issue Brand new old stock never been built up.

What a gorgeous frame. Kingcutter you're either very rich, very lucky, or both. Unbelieveable to get that in it's box, untouched. Unbefuckinglieveable.

You sure it's '57? I'm under the impression forks back then always had flat crowns ... am I 'missing something'?

  • Oh yeah, and I should add ...

Dibs when you sell it in a fortnight ;)

Thats what i thought but by the serial no it's a 57 but i think its later.

  • the tracksuits are nice. please use cloth tape on the carlton.

  • he is a hairdresser after all.

What does that have to do with anything?

  • yes those.

the most retarded hubs in the world.

Hey Spag Bol, may I ask why you think they are 'retarded'?

  • Need a little help here, i have a bit of a problem. I have just fitted my bb (111mm) but when i put the chainset on (i haven't even tightened it) the spider runs so close to the chain-stay it might aswell be touching. I was thinking i could space the BB along with the sprocket accordingly to correct it, what do you guys think?

On a lighter note i just had my headset fitted which i'm pretty chuffed with:

    JIS crank on ISO BB?

  • Nope its a campag centaur BB.

  • @KC, that frame is the same as in the pictures, which says the pic "was shot at the leicester track, the home of the 1970 world chamionships"
so i'm guessing the pic was taken after that date. which puts it in the 70's

    could be wrong tho..........

  • couldn't bare to keep seeing my new frame unclothed, so swapped components from my raleigh beater so i could ride it. blown away by how smooth it is.

Frame design fail, methinks. The inside face of the spider is only about 3mm outside the BB face, so with short stays and a large PCD spider, there is always scope for a problem, which the frame designer should have foreseen by dimpling or curving the stay.

What did you have on there before the restoration?

sussed it out now it starts with f but on further reading it is late 1960's

    Frame numbers.

Early frame numbers were prefixed with a letter. They were stamped on the left side rear dropout. The following is a list compiled from various sources and is probably not 100% accurate. If anyone can provide more accurate information, it would be very welcome.
    A 1939F 1957-58L 1963B 1940-48G 1959M 1964C 1948-52H 1960S 1965D 1953-54J 1961T 1966E 1955-56K 1962Y 1967
(This series of letters needs revision. With more frames identified it is clear that in the 1950's a single prefix letter was used for several years. In the 1960's, as production increased to meet demand, more than one letter was used per year. For example, E seems to be more relevant to 1957-1958. I need to reinterpret the data I have to try and clarify this.)
From 1968 to 1972 two numbering systems were used. The majority of models had simple numbers, up to seven digits, sometimes with leading zeros, stamped on the left rear dropout, at the top of the seat tube to the rear or under the bottom bracket. I do not have sufficient data to analyse these numbers and relate them to specific years.
Some models, the Professional and Giro d'Italia models have been identified, had a letter and numbers. I am aware of bikes with D, F and G. My initial view is that D was 1968-69, E was 1969-70, F was 1970-71 and G was 1971-72, when the numbers changed to the new scheme.

  • Nice!!
That setting with a small front carrier and bottle cage "to roll-up a waterproof poncho" reminds me of the way Alex Singer bikes are made...

Yeah, looking for a waxed canvas tool bag or something for the front.

    Very nice.

    Ta chap.

  • KC, that frame is bee-yoo-ti-ful... 2nd dibs...

  • I'll also want the box... Natch...
