VeeVee's Ellis Briggs
Fantastic job, Mr. G. It looks alot nicer in the flesh, those Phils are a very nice touch.

What's the length of the top tube and the length of the stem? Length of the ST sounds about right - You might want to check to see if you can move the seatpost though...
-
• #20130
Sound like it's too big for you, I'd estimate a 57cm frame will fit you better.
still, least you found it in a ditch, the good thing is you can clean up the frame and sell it as a frameset for says, £30-40 easily if it is in decent condition with no sight of damage.

Top tube is 60cm, stem is 8cm.

Would it be worth continuing the conversion, if it was a little big for me? I really just want to try and get some experience riding. Then maybe before I move to London, I could get a slightly smaller frame.
-
• #20133
That's a tricky one, but if I were you I'd try going straight for a frame that (roughly) fits.
-
• #20134
I actually think that will be alright for you. You can always get another stem if you really need to.
Edit - Actually TT might be a bit too long but a 2nd hand stem will be a tenner max.

Right, I may go and see what other frame sizes there are where I found it, because there was a fair few bikes down there.. There was even a bike repairing the fence. If none are better fitted I think I might go ahead with this one, then if I dont get along with it. Just sell it on, I need the practice building it anyway.

Awesome ^

Just another quick question, is it frowned upon if you take a vintage branded frame.. and then take it right back to bare metal and paint it up with no trace of the original branding?
-
• #20138
sometimes, sometimes not, it really depends on what bike it is.

that should be a good size for you with a not-outrageous amount of seat post showing.
if you prefer the higher seatpost look then smaller frame for sure. with all due respects conveyed to my learned forumer mr scoble i think that 57cm would be far too small for someone of your stature.
fickle as this question may sound, are there any pics of bikes you like the *look *of? can we see them. colour not important this is purely to get the aesthetic feel. PLAN: save time and money,, get as close to the right bike the first time.sorry if i missed something.

I am also just over six foot tall, hence my suggestion of a 57cm frame, however I made a big error in the inside legs measurement, as 88/89cm it turn out to be 34/35", not 33" like mine.
my concern of the sizing is simply the top tube length might be a bit too long for him (providing he did measure it from centre to centre), 60cm is quite a reach.

• #20143
A 60cm top tube is too long for me, and I'm 6'5".

I'm thinking;
New bits to go on.
- Campagnolo Centaur BB
- Sugino Super Mighty Crankset
- Campagnolo Record Headset (or Miche Primato/Stronglight A9((recommendations)))
- Miche Supertype (Black) Seatpost
- Selle Italia Flite Saddle.
- These in Black
Stuff that will go on but i need to change!
- Formula Fix/Fix Hub CXP-22 rear
- Generic MA40 front wheel.
- GB Spear Lug Stem
- Cheap Aluminum Track Drops
- Tektro Front Brake
Would anyone recommend air wing bars? they look comfortable.
Also, does anyone have Miche Primato brakes? they look nice, want to know if they are any good.
Also, am after some Anti-theft skewers, can anyone suggest good cheap-ish ones?

I actually don't, nor am I all legs. Weird huh...
