  • My list will (hopefully) soon be
    1 polo/city bike

    the end

  • Wahey, confessional time.

    2 road bikes
    2 track bikes
    1 beater
    2 cyclocross bikes

  • summer and winter? what's the difference, is one for outside and one for indoor?

Yes that's the general idea. Except Herne Hill is not indoors.

  • All these list are too short - if i had the cash i would buy any bike that even stirs a flicker of interest - i would set myself targets like 1 bike from each competing nations pursuit teams at the Moscow Olympics, then the LA olympics etc etc

  • Yes that's the general idea. Except Herne Hill is not indoors.

I see, two for outdoors then. what's herne hill like?

really, really nice bike and build, love it !

  • I'm starting to wonder why I don't have more bikes.

I only have one at the moment. Every day fixed gear, swap bars, remove mudguards, turn around the rear wheel and it's a track bike. That's it.

I'm planning on building a 24" SS MTB for tricks, a road bike and a proper track bike soon.

That should be enough... but enough is never enough...

  • more here!

Quoting as I believe this has not been done one that page...

This is beautiful!! really nice work!

    Ha, thanks (I think)!

Just one thing, you have an amazing touring bike, a great mix of classic and modern. But why the mini pump? It just looks wrong in my opinion. You have a bike capable fo doing a grand tour on, then you stick an emergency pump on it.Surely finding a nice frame fit pump is easy enough.
Its not a critiscism of the bike, more an observation,as the bike is amazing!

The idea was always to build a bike for long day rides, weekend excursions and light/fast touring. I wanted something classic looking but comprised of modern kit. Obviously lugged steel is dated technology, but it's perfect for it's job here. Ditto the Brooks. It's supposed to be fairly self-sufficient without any luggage or a bag, so that I can get on it and go without taking a load of crap along. There is a multi-tool and puncture repair kit in the saddlebag so a frame-mounted pump was necessary. I couldn't find a nice/in-keeping full length one but loved the Lezyne (Road Drive). It think (hope) it's suitably contemporary but also refers to the old school.

Two questions: What are the hubs? And Do you know where I can get Honjo Koken in non-hammered?

The hubs were a bit tricky. Basically Campag no longer make them, apart from the black Records or as part of pre-built wheelsets. The rear is a 2008 Centaur and the front a 2007 Veloce. The hubs for both these groupsets were exactly alike (neither hub even has a groupset name on it), apart from their equally ugly QR levers which I binned in favour of traditional Campag ones (2006 Chorus). To confuse matters further, the 'nuts' (not sure of their actual name) with the loopy bits are Record, cos I like them.

Ahh SP. Very nice. Welcome to the Super Awesome Green Mercian Club. You membership pack is in the post.

    Teenslain - Mercian ride?

Isn't yours yellow?! ;) Can't wait for the ride, what's happening with that?

  • Gorgeous! And super practical. Love the leather mudguard flaps, all the other leather too for that matter. And the bell.

Agree about the mini pump though - it doesn't bother me it being there per se, but it's off centre! That's not super precise is it? ;)

Also think you should stick your vision 1 under the bars using Scott's mod, I use this and it's so much more secure and looks a lot nicer under the bars (IMHO).

Yes, definitely! that's exactly what it was intended for!

Oh well, I'm not a big fan of symmetry anyway. I had planned to swing the light underneath but I quite like its headlampiness this way round. It's also more practical (less in the way of cables) and probably works better up high. I'll re-read Scott's thread though anyway, cheers.

  • Panasonic has arrived, after being bum-raped by ParcelForce (£60!! customs... fuckers).
Loads to do here... definitely needs to have a new DT (can´t imagine riding it/selling it like this)...
... still worth it for what I´ve paid. Oh!... it´s fully chromed under the (amazing) paintjob : )

  • ^ Sex...

  • Dent on the TT?

  • Jesus, amazing!

  • Dent on the TT?

So it seems... although it feels solid as fossilised shit.
I think Mercian will be the choice.

  • Jesus, amazing!

Get me those as decals and I will use it.
BTW... lets say I really like someone else´s bike (paintjob), one of those that already became classics around Porn thread; would it be wrong to want a similar (really similar)
paintjob done? Even though the other one´s on the US of fcking A?

  • the P looks like candy, nuno. it is lovely

  • Obrigado/Thank you : D
