  • New Project:
Pick the frame up on Friday night and a set of "classic style" wheels. Will do an initial cleanup and build to see if the headset is useable and the BB threads are all okay.
I am gonna use this as a track racing bike (not for road at all) so will spec it with cinelli quill stem and pista bars and slick tyres. probably go with a Campag track chainset.

    Nice Dave Russell frame.

Any idea what year it is? The BB serial number may help.

I've quoted the pics again to agitate Coppi & Murts.

  • Really lovely frame, especially with the fork crown, one of my favourite.

  • nice curved rear bridge and I really like the old school logos.

@ wingedangle, well done for sticking with it and getting that bb out. a month of pain was worth it I reckon.

  • here comes a stupid advice question, feel free to ignore.
for some time i've been dreaming about owning a nice geared racer. and now i found one for sale.
dancelli columbus frame and a FULL shimano 600 gruppo anno mid 80'ies, pedals with cages included! all is in very good condition frame has lots of chrome and crazy 80'ies paintjob.
seller wants 270 pounds. is that over the odds?
i think it's fair but i just got really insecure since it's a lot of money for me right now...
    whatcha reckon?

  • here comes a stupid advice question,............blah...............blah..............
    whatcha reckon?

how much would it cost to build a bike like this from scratch, how long would it take and how much of a hurry are you in? or how long would it take to find another bike like this? they are really questions of do you have too little time and too much money based on the premise that if you had more time and less money you would wait for a cheaper one but then what is a cheaper one when there is always a cheaper one around the corner or build it from scratch which is not always the cheapest way.

    sorry if i missed something.

  • "Period" and "comma" key of your keyboard defect ?

    ;-)

there you have it. it's not easy.
well, maybe i just want someone to tell me to buy it:)

    edit:

2nd edit: my dad will give me a matching shimano600 stem to go with it (they're nice)

  • £270? what size is it? I'll take that beaut.

    not your size sorry ;)

  • You should buy it. It's gorgeous.

  • Dibs! What size

  • looks nice man.

  • imagine finding all the parts, trying to get the best deal.. even if you managed to get all the parts cheaper, you will have wasted hours and hours trying to get them, travelling all over London, going to the post office, maybe you accidentally buy the wrong part..

if its not for you, you will get your money back selling it on here by the looks of things

  • i'll get it. thank you. just waiting for the guy to answer my last mail.
    ^_^

  • I've already mailed him with £300, looks like it's mine :-)

let's settle this like men then:

  • Everyone seems to be working on a Winter Hack project, so here's mine ;-)

Home for the winter, new saddle to be found, my love affair with the SLR is very much over, pedal mod to take straps and a new computer too I think.

Oh I think I just came, that is fucking amazing, proper beast...love it!

  • I'd rather a good old Queensbury

Only jokin, not really mailed him. IF you get it and decide it's not for you, I'll have dibs though mate

  • thought so
if i get it i guess i'll love it to pieces though

  • Yeah, I would just go ahead and buy that Dron... looks really nice. Is that a C-Record rear mech?

  • nope shimano600

  • Sorry, I had actually read that before. Ignore me please.

  • I was gonna say, that's a bit tight!

  • postie delivered me a new chain today

so i took the old girl out for a sputz, i was expecting the 12/52 ratio to be insane, but it wasn't too bad actually, i can't get up hills, but my journey doesn't have any so that's fine.

need to tighten up the crank bolts, i don't have a socket that can fit inside the crank arm as it's quite tight. that didn't stop me zooming about the place on it

need some decals for the downtube & head now, grand total: slightly under £60

  • WOW! schweeeeeet!!
