  • it looks bigger than a 58cm

  • it's a rather large 58cm apparently. i'm 6"3 and moved the seat about 1" higher than shown to suit my gangly pins.

    @sparky - no thanks.

  • Please don't turn that Merckx into a 'fixie' . . . let the puppies live!

Ride it how you want it.

i completely agree... but at least let it be known that converting it is taking something "great" and making it "ok".

  • ok I'll give you that one.
but I'd rather see a bike ridden than put on a pedestal.

  • @jezzer can I have the saddle if you get rid of it?

  • Ok, convert it, but keep all the original parts. so when you sell it, it's still a complete bike :)

  • No, convert it and sell the groupset here. I will buy it and convert my bike into the fully geared affair.

  • £400.01?

  • Finished until I get new stem and bars up there. :)

    Nice!

  • Cool - That's gonna look bloody nice!

    BMC. Fin.

    killer

  • Cheers!

  • (partial) groupset and saddle may well be available. will post on here if so.

  • Hi all.

Update on the Bob Jackson I was doing up (which was in pretty good nick to start with anyway).

    http://www.londonfgss.com/post854915-14038.html

Its finished now, more or less, though it does need a new saddle (probably dark brown, maybe Brooks). I'm a little unsure about the fizik grip tape but until I see some grips I really like I am going to stick with it.

The frame is Reynolds 753 track tubing, Dura-Ace hubs laced to Mavic Open 4CD rims which I got off the original bike, Ofmega Super Competition cranks and 48t road chainwheel and a 19t rear sprocket which gives about 68 gi, and nice new Nitto quill stem and flat bar.

I also put some Shimano 600 pedals and original 105 cages on but as nice as they look they don't give me the confidence I need riding fixed on the roads so planning to swtich to SPDs.

Thanks for comments I had earlier on here especially the ones pleading with me not to mess with the colour scheme - I had planned to re spray it but I doubt I could ever get anything that would have the same vibe as this and gradually came round to that point of view.

Sorry for the rubbish phone camera photos.

Not living in Town at the mo - down in Chichester for a couple of months, but hopefull be able to put in an appearance soon.

Doing something similar to my KHS as i want an SS for poping to the shops on down here

  • I'm looking for a Sun Cycles (Birmingham) head badge. On eBay I've only come across Worksop badges. Any ideas?

Before getting bogged down with the headbadge I'd personally sort out some foot retention and a better chainset, those Maxy(?) ones kinda cheapen an otherwise lovely looking bike. Also I agree with whoever suggested black Brooks tape, would look great.

Glad the bike didn't fall in the river while you took these photos.

  • Update on the Bob Jackson

This is going to look amazing with a new seat (black I reckon) and pedals. Definitely screaming for drops though!

  • Sun Manxman 1954/1955.

Since the photos were taken, I've added:

    1. a new chain and sorted out the tension; and
    2. black Oury grips, which I'm unsure about.

I have an old Sun frame, was going to do it up but the BB is stuck and to be honest I don't think the frame is really worth the effort. Keeping it at a mate's at the moment, will check when I'm next there (probably Thursday) and if it's a Birmingham headbadge you're more than welcome to it.

Also got the forks, with the little plastic Sun logo insert, if you're interested. Not sure they'll take 700c though.

  • Finished this on Thurday, been too busy by the coast and then too busy riding it to get some pictures taken, but this was my result.. might not be everyones taste but I love it :)
