Thanks all.
such a world apart from most of the builds I've seen
LOL, yes, I thought it might be on this forum! ;)
The only part I'm not certain about is the bars, but I've not had a chance to ride it since it's been rebuilt. I have a regular set of drop bars that came off it ready to go back on if I don't like the moustache bars, hence the too long brake cable - it's exactly right for the drops. The drop bars are oversize so match up with the powder coated stem that matches the frame, as well. Either way, the bar tape will be pink.
dayno, the inlaws live in the Hunter Valley, so that's where we'll be initially. I'm hoping to find work in Sydney, so then will be based somewhere on the Central Coast, splitting the distance from Sydney and the Hunter as we have a newborn and want grandparents relatively near by.

About to start a new build. Will post pics. Like the look of those rims - also Gizmond's Campy Shamals. Anyone know how much these are and where to get my mitts on them? ta
Hmm, nice surly!
Not having something to build up at the moment was getting boring, so I appear to have one of these arriving tomorrow. F& x 2 Fs only, and 'intended' to be for a friend, but it might just end up being mine mwah ha ha ha etc. The shoddy end of aluminium after the company had been sold, I think, but it was a quiet ebay weekend. £50 bike in all I'm hoping.

Road or Track?
I have a rear 8 speed shamal tubular spare, can be converted to take 9/10 speed to if that's your thing.

Thanks - was looking for clincher ideally... track. Have actually UTFS and found a couple leads... It's an old Italian road frame I'm puppymurdering and I reckon those shamals will fit with the general feel of the frame better than silver velocitys.

There is no such thing as a track clincher shamal, so you will need to rebuild something. Good luck with your hunt :-)

What with my lack of knowledge and vague yet ambitios plans for this build, I can see myself on this thread quite often. Thanks anyway Giz - real nice build btw.

I guess this counts as a project... it's certainly a work in progress. I've had mudguard mounts and a pump peg added to my Steamroller, powder coat at Armourtex including colour matched mudguards and a stem (oversize bars only). It's not finished as I've run out of time before it has to be boxed up for shipping to Australia, but I'm pretty happy with how it's turned out so far:
that is really lovely, for a second I thought it was a Charge Plug, what mudguard are those? I'm looking for a powdercoatable one to match the frame colour.

Edscoble, they are Berthoud: http://www.gillesberthoud.fr/anglais/index1.php
I'm slightly annoyed because I had wanted the extra long mudguards (rear is the same, but the front projects another 4 or 5 inches forwards) so that it projected in front of the mini front rack which is still to be fitted. Unfortunately, they didn't have them in stock so I've had to go with the 'normal' length ones, which are the same length as SKS but not quite what I wanted.
The Berthoud ones are pretty inexpensive so you don't feel bad about powder coating them. I couldn't do this to a Honjo...
Oh, and you realise just how comparatively easy it is to set up SKS guards with that extra stay! These are proving a lot more work (doesn't help that the rear guard touches the seat tube).

Okay here we go then - just got my paws on this Guarini off Joe1983 - good seller btw. He got it off Hilary Stone. It's so beautiful, just drawing up a plan of build action now...
The frame has some beautiful detailing - pics on my flickr.

It's such a nice old frame i realise the right thing to would be to restore with nice old Campy groupset, but i'm going to convert it to fixed. I'm not gonna touch the braize-ons so will leave the option open for a later date.
So going to convert to fixed. I want to use components that don't look too garish or out of place next to a vintage frame, but at the same time rock solid - the most important thing to me about this bike is that it rides really well.
This is my first full build - have just tinkered for years up til now so looking forward to getting properly stuck in. Will try not to ask too many questions.
It's 126mm spacing so was thinking of using a 120mm hub with spacers - 2 x 3mm on on each side should do it shouldn't it?
Want to keep the wheels matched to the chrome as much as possible - would like something deep v in silver. Silver velocity perhaps - do like the look of those campagnolo shamals. Laced to reliable hubs that aren't too garish or anything. Classy looking.
Any thoughts on stems? Haven't looked into this that much yet...
Drop handlebars. And I'll be running a front brake only. Was thinking a modern Campagnolo as I love the feel of these.

I think its got to be a simple/classic looking cinelli stem (you should try to keep it Italian if there's a choice)
I'd go for box/low section rims with that frame - keep the wheels really simple bc its such a lovely frame you don't want to detract from it.

Those stems are nice, and the price is right... If anyone's got any knocking around PM me...
Was toying with the idea of low section rims as would be truer to the frame, but the 14-year-old in me wants deep rims.

^^Adam that is a great looking bike you've got there. really good attention to detail.
