If it was rare then they might have a point, but Mercians are very common. Powder coat it and ride it.
Its certainly better off on the road than sitting around rusting and looking authentic
I'd say it was down to maths and personnal taste.
If you send it to Mercian and get it repainted/stickered/lug lined etc. you'll end up with a classy looking frame, but at a price.
http://www.merciancycles.com/renovation.aspA powdercoat will protect the frame just as well, and save you money. But the final look will not be so nice (IMHO).
Its down to the value you would place on the final product, compared to the outlay.

New tyres, new saddle. 4 halo twin rails dead in 2 months! I think I'll stick with regular black tyres now.

The issue with Deda tyres is actually finding them. Condor have intermittent stock and very few other places in the UK seem to stock them.

They're beautifully grippy, very prone to puncture thought as it doesn't appear to have any protection layer, but netherless still look strong, the gumwall part seemed pretty surdy.
if you're going to commute on them, don't get it, I don't know how strong it is against the street of London.
if you're racing on them - do get it, I can attack corner at a faster speed I thought was nigh on impossible to do.
not try them on the wet thought, oh another thing, it's a fucking bitch to fit on any rims, even on an open pro.
-
• #14568
They are very good Ed, but not for riding around London streets on your fixie skidder.
-
• #14569
Oh no, best leave that to 4 Seasons.
but defintely a great tyres for racing, it's already on my road bike, look a bit queer mind, gumwall tyres on modern brushed alu frame!

pip...
its a pod shelter designed with the help of some kids at a CoE school in fulham... its a project linked with BBC21cc and, RIBA and the royal festival hall.
The pod was design by my work and built by a very clever contractor Cowley timberworks. The pod is a place to view films from Tides an times project which involved a load of other schools from around the UK.

Finished my girlfriends bike a few weeks back. Well almost finished, probably going to change the bars (hence the lack of tape) for bullhorns...
Also, just picked this up at Tour De Ville today.
Apparently a late 60's, early 70's (at a guess) track frame made in Brussels.
Obviously needs a lot of care and attention. Plus there is a small crack at the top of the seat tube - which i'm going to get fixed asap.
ST 59cm TT 57.5, nervex BB cluster...etc
That is sweet, where did you get the saddle?
