  • was also after some 47 corimas haha

I sort of lost the plot and bought a red axs group and corimas on the forum for this build.
But I realised how mental it was to be spending that sort of money on a fun bike that won’t be my primary road bike and sold it all again a few days back.

The Corimas really did look the business though, the carbon weave was a near perfect match to the seat post. I really want deep section carbonz but I also want to be able to slow down when required.

  • Hmm full modern group makes this a bit boring imo. Deserves a nice period correct group

  • Yeah I totally agree. I have a full on mamil chariot, another bike with a modern groupset would be boring and a bit pointless.
To get it riding I’ll use the r7000 that I have but da7800 would be nice in the long term.
I’m really fixated on having a polished crankset though.

  • We have been living parallel lives ! All my r8000 was second hand except the crankset and wheels off another bike so not in too deep. I think if your seat post feels snug you should be ok, mine is baggy to say the least without the seat clamp on. If you did have problems you could always swap out the partial brass one for a full wrap around beer can shim with the top edge rolled out a bit and it would probably sort it. Those wheels look mad, I was under the impression braking had improved on more modern rim brake carbon wheels? But never owned any.

  • Work in progress fixed gear Audax/commuter/winter bike.

Brother 631 Track frame with a NOS Singular Osprey fork from eBay, with all the bits from my old fixed commuter.

Still to come, better tyres, mudguards, bar tape.

  • It's firm, not harsh. Rode this many times on one and it was perfectly acceptable IMO.

  • I've only owned one previous set of rim brake carbon wheels. They were American Classics from about 8ish years ago. I only used them for a few months before going back to alloy rims at the time. They were always sketchy but the last time I used them, I reckon I came pretty close to dying when a speeding car missed me literally by inches. I think alloy rims would have slowed down a lot sooner... I went home and put them up for sale that day.
I went to disc brakes whenever the Caad10 disc came out and haven't used any recent carbon rim brakes but I don't think they have really improved dramatically.

I've not looked to see what the seat post is like without the collar on, it'll be interesting to check.

  • Where was that photo? Looks great.

  • He’s decided to keep it :(
But this turned up at work for me.
Phoenix Pathfinder 20” folder. Which I think is now the only bike I have with internal cable routing.

  • That is a new direction…

  • Haha! Yeah, I’m hopefully picking up a dead BMX over the weekend and will see where it ends up.

  • Mont Faron. Great climb, terrible road surface on the way down...

  • That internal routing looks sketchy as fuck! Love it. Is it reinforced around the entry/exit holes at all?

  • Probably not and it is proper thick tubing.

  • Bingo, the tubes are as thick as all hell. The routing holes look like somebody drilled a hole and then stuffed a screwdriver in it and wiggled it around to make the cable sit at a nice entry angle, they failed it doesn’t.

  • Skugru is your friend, malleable plastic and it'll keep it from rattling.

  • Anyone know a shop in London who has a digital metric wheel building device to measure the trueness of a wheel?

  • Not really helpful as we aren't in London, but we have the Islandix setup here in Norwich if you can't find anything closer to you.

  • What’s wrong with a good only fashioned truing stand?

(Park tool have some software that means you can convert tension readings to something digital)

  • It is to measure the rim roundness, I've basically ordered a set of carbon rim brakes wheelset and the front wheel doesn't seem to be brake properly and I need to demonstrate it is not formed correctly.

  • Tbf you don’t need digital for that.

  • How can you check it to know it is out of tolerance?

  • How can you check it to know it is out of tolerance?

Analogue dial gauges have numbers on them 🙂

  • I had a Turbo saddle on this for years and not sure really why as I don't even like them so much. Switched to a somewhat ratty Flite which feels quite a bit better.
