  • Shud have my v3 cutter in a few days whoo hoo

  • Ok, at the moment she's almost fully built, apart from some fork woes which should be fixed by Jimbilly this week so I can fit a front brake - I'll post some more pics then, but for the moment here's some grainy phone pics to wet your appetite.

Paul Villiers, Custom Track, 853 Fillet Brazed.

  • nice Claire..... but... threadless headset?

  • Go brakless FTW!

  • Fred...

    1. Whats wrong with Taxis?
    2. Can you send me a link for that frame. Was telling a mate about it after bumping into you on... whatever day that was.

Yep, it's a modern looking build and I don't like quill stems,

@teens don't Jimbilly kept shouting that at me last night, there is no way I'm riding a rather expensive frame brakless round the streets of London's famous London when I can't even skid, I'm no hipster fixie skidder! (even though it does look like one)

I did however have a little trundle round my road at 11pm last night and got a little excited. I might take it to the park round the corner tomorrow and try and learn to skid on it on the grass, the lack of brake is a good excuse to learn as I wont be reaching for it.

  • In all fairness after riding brakeless for a solid 6 months, it's seemed perfectly normal, like it's just a normal thing to do than a freaky near-death experiencing thing.

  • Claire, I love it.

    The BB cluster is nuts!

    Hmmm cable braze-ons?

  • nice claire

  • It's looking really nice Claire. I'm sure once the teething problems are resolved you'll love it.

  • Damn, I can't see the pics. I was going to pay a visit to Mr Villiers at somepoint this year....

...but then I went and bought two bikes by accidente.

  • Ed you ride brakless? I never knew that... :P

+1 been rolling brakless for a few months as an experiment having broken my front brake at polo, and have found it surprisingly comfy...

Really? I might give it a go then.
I thought it was my saddle making me uncomfortable, but suppose it could be my brake.

  • you might have to change your user name though.......

  • great bike claire, almost lost myself there! I wonder how light it is compare to a 631.

Comfty is oddly the right choice of word, althought it does not necessary mean slow.

  • it is really nice Claire. I can't wait to see it at Souths

  • hey,

Just purchased this bike on egay. Want to make it singlespeed but don't know where the hell to start + i'm an epic Luddite when it comes to making stuff. Anyone got recommendations of bike shops (my lbs are pirates) that take on refurb/conversion jobbies? And also what sort of cost would I be looking at? I'm happy keeping it rough and ready so no need for a paint job.

Really mate, don't bother taking it to a shop. It'll cost you loads (I went into Brick Lane Bikes to see about a new BB and they said it'd be £35 just to fit it) and if you do it yourself you'll know a lot more about how stuff works and how to fix/adjust it when it goes wrong.

A shop should be your last resort. Bikes are piss to work on. I used to service my own motorbike, and apart from the valve clearances, it was just as easy to maintain and upgrade. Just a little bit more going on.. Don't be intimidated by bolts and screws, it really is a piece of piss, plus theres an absolute mountain of information and helpful people on the internet and in shops

  • or

wrong finish, i know but i really love these

close but not perfect i agree

you should probably look at older rims, as they have less depth to them

cheers, yeah like them both, amyone know someone who could chrome em up - summit about chrome man....

  • Finally got around to finishing the missus / ed's missus clone bike.... the only defense i have is that apart from handlebars, brakes & levers it has been built for at least 8 months.

well put together, summer rides then..

    ^ what he said

  • finished my "not too serious" bike:

    looks good dude.

i agree, comfy is the right word. it just feels like it makes alot more sense to not have a brake. i don't find myself going slower etc, i just enjoy the ride slightly more than i did when i used to have a brake. Brakless FTW!

    1. nothing except the ones that run me in to the kerb (possibly after seeing the sticker?). I'm thinking of changing it to "fuckpedicabs"
    2. it's an on-one but they don't ever have any in stock - see post 179
  • great bike claire, almost lost myself there! I wonder how light it is compare to a 631.

It feels really light, but then compared to the plug it would, I have however ruined that lightness by putting the spok and a deep v/phil on it :-)

The plug of clefty is now being ridden by one Miss_socks.

Hopefully I should have it sorted by the Souths BBQ on Sunday, it's fully built apart from the brake and is hanging on my wall looking pretty at the moment.
