I read your experience on the DD thread, did it ride as comfortably as you wanted it to be? (With the handlebars set up)

that fork look fucking nice with the lugless chrome frame.
Being very fussy, all it need left is a simple classic looking crankset and saddle, bingo.
Prob a stupid question but . . . What Saddle is this Edward?
And Scott, that saddle bad is massive!! Brooklyn looksa really funny with all that stuff on it, but clearly serves a purpose. Nice work sir. Now if you could only work out a way of selling them . . . . . ;)

I got the cheapest one (Barley) and it's pretty good, roomier than I expected, and looking at it I was expecting something like a £70 price tag, not £40 (or £20 if you look around).
My father bike have panniers and I did feel the weight when cornering, and because they're pannier, the weight are not in the central of the rack (like on top, not on the side) which doesn't help it further.
The saddle bag however shift the weight nearer to your back, cornering is better with a saddlebag than a pannier, I can't explain to be honest, but it just feel like the bike is slighty heavier than it is if you filled the bag up, instead of feeling abnormal weight on certain area of the bike (such as pannier), it'll just feel like the rear part of the frame made of slighty heavier steel but the steeling is still fine.
You should get the carradice bagman to go with your carradice bag, it held the bag steady and stable unlike the current setup on my bicycle, I order the sport version as it's designed for smaller bag such as the Barley, it should hold the bag a little further away from the saddle so your thight don't hit it at certain time (note in the picture of my bike the saddlebag is closer to the seatpost, it's not bad at all, but you'll occasionally feel the bag on your thight when you shift your weight back a bit).
Cheers Ed. That sounds great. I'll probably order all of it (bracket and rack) in one go so may have to wait till the end of the month. I'll let you know how I get on.

This is going to be my first Fixed build, only a cheap one to start off with!
Its going to have track ends fitted by SuperTed, then i can get going. -

remember it has road geometry and it would build up to a rather nice road bike,
if u so wished.
for the price of SUper T track end you could get yourself a white industries eccentric hub
which would give you flexibility as to the function of the bike
i.e you could get a geared wheel and wack some gears on it for a weekend or what not.
I have a similar ribble too, i used the WI hub. clearances are epic. possibly the rizla worthy. -

Yeah I'm still agonising over that, bought them cuz they are beautiful, but I weigh 83-85 kg and want to ride it on the road sometimes, but don't know whether to recoup my expenses and revert to the older style record hubs, which seem to be a bit meatier. The wheel build is not very highly tensioned, as I don't need that lateral stiffness, and could do with a bit of spring. The DT revolution spokes are also the thinnest commomnly available, and I'm sort of banking on them failing to save the hub in any kind of impact. I also keep my tyres fairly low, around 100 psi, and try to avoid bumps. Is this all just wishful thinking and am I setting myself up for a crushingly expensive mistake? Answers on a postcard to the usual address.

Ah, misjudged youre budget on the wheels, seemed to have forgotten your a 'city boy' now ;)
I've seen those rims on Starbike, home of weightweenies' (not that I would be unfaithful to this forum, ahem)
are they these?
http://www.starbike.com/php/product_info.php?lang=en&pid=11091I'm currently sweating over a EBay bid. Its a seriously sexy handmade MTN bike frame. But if I win Mrs Smallfurry will have me balls for earings (shipping from US + Norwegian customs = ouch).

I agree with Dylan. Eccentric hub, or for a cheaper option a half link chain and seeing which size sprocket gives you the correct chain tension.

i tried the half link, magic gear option, its really not good if u want to have reliable chain tension for stopping with the pedals and so on.
chain can/will come off when you stress it a lot i.e. skidding/braking.Problem is the chain wears ever so slightly giving you slack chain syndrome.
if u were planning on going single speed, then the slack chain issue would be negated.
(by slack i mean a slight dangling)

• #12475
^^Yeah, this is true, but if you get the tension of the chain taught the first time round then I've found it tends to stay on ok. If MatP wants a taste of riding fixed without altering/butchering a beautiful road frame I'd advise this route. If fixed is for you MatP it won't be long before you swap this out for a suitably 'dropped out' frame. And make a roadie happy;)
This one's for you Bikeknobnyc :)
edit...forgot to say...the total bike weight for the DD setup was 49lbs...i love my chocolate donkey!
