Okay, cheers guys. Gunna roll with it and probably just pick up some wider ones when I’m next at a bike shop

Building this up today as a kind of old-school lightweight fast tourer/retro gravel type thing.Frame is a scruffy early 80's Allin that I've tried to touch up (I emphasise the Tried here, turns out flamboyant is as hard to touch up as you might expect it to be.)
Going to be build with TA Cyclotourist 50/42 double crankset , Campag Nuovo Record front and rear with some old Record bar end shifters, Mafac Racer Centre-Pull brakes for much clearance, and a 27" wheel set -Super Champion on Campag Nuovo Tipo hubs. (hopefully with a Maillard 700 6-speed freewheel if I can remove the mangled old Regina 5 speed that's currently fitted.)
I know naff-all about fitting friction shifters so should be a fun learning experience...

2nd project today. Sanding back some rival cranks. They were really scratched and gouged so I’ve gone over them with an electric file and now I’m hand sanding

Nice to see them getting a new lease of life

• #123742
Are you aiming to have them brushed or polished?
-
• #123743
polished IMO VMB tread>>>
-
• #123744
Well I could have left them brushed but I’ve started with the finer grades now. I’m not going for mirror polished, just a uniform silver finish without any directional marks.

Couldn't resist this when I saw it, turns out it is most likely a team-issue Squadra. Sadly it's probably too small. As I got it with the exception of the tyres and chainring. Thinking it needs full Claris to match the shifters...
-
• #123746
I think it needs full DA7700/7400 to match the cranks.

The setup on thoses Forma bars are too hy
nice big ring BTW -
• #123748
The whole car area is horrible, although the previous owner did apologise for the tape job. Any excise to use my favourite chainring is always taken.
@pastry_bot Ideally it'd be Campag, but I wouldn't say no to 7400.

had to make a bigger lever today to remove a pretty stuck single speed sprocket.

Trippy
My race wheels have been fine for many years with just 14mm diameter contact at the dropouts.
