Am i the only one who thinks that chain looks weird?? And outside of the chainstays???
I think it's the shadow of the underside of the weld/cap that makes it look like a piece of chain. Doesn't help that it perfectly lines up with the chain. And yeah, the chain has some links that are too tight as well.

New beater project. The first step is getting the stuck seatpost out. Fits me just right, but it's for my friend who is a girl :), so needs lowering a bit.

I know I'm a bit late to the party but I quite like panaracer paselas. The PT or TG version any way. Maybe not the quickest tyres but good in the wet and unbelievably puncture resistant.

Looking good mate! Kinda wish I'd done this myself now :)
One thing to note though is that you may have limited your tyre size options on the rear now you've filled the brake bridge. Look forward to see how it turns out. -

Quick straw poll. Does anyone here actually do anything to protect the inside of steel frames?
-

Yep 'twas Vaz. Cool dude. He also checked the alignment for me.

I know, I just didn't like the way it looked so uneven!... whatever the filler was could also be picked out as well. could have asked him to move the whole bridge further up the stays to keep the clearance, so if it ends up being a problem can always do that.

Ive coated the inside of 2 out of 3 of my steel frames with boiled linseed. The first was done because it had no drainage hole and was collecting some nasty rusty water. The second was because it was brand new and I didnt want the same thing to happen again

I use Dinitrol ML; apparently it's what Bob Jackson use on their frames from new. Not sure whether it makes any difference, but it's cheap and gives me some reassurance.

Surely it's rear that flexes, not the spindle?

Both flex, but my money is on spindle flex being the major contributor to closing the gap between chainring and chainstay. Given the geometry, the chainring moves about 10 times as far as the end of the spindle when it bends.
