Already ordered a GX1400 crank :/

I had bought this otp pos mtb for my girl 9 years ago. Since then, I've built her up 4-5 bikes (in order to justify and balance out my bike hoarding) and this has gotten neglected over the past few years. By neglected I mean sat still outdoors for 4 years in Stockholm :/. The bike was in a sorry state to say the least. I decided to spruce it up a bit instead of throwing it in the skip which would clearly have been the most time efficient way of taking care of it. In the process of trueing the wheels, changing the cables, brake pads, bb and bearings I got a little carried away and raided my parts bin so it got a few upgrades. Actually the only components that stayed were the seatpost, saddle and v-brake calipers. Still needs a narrow wide chainring and a chain guide and some minor tweaks but it's nearly there. The lesson to be learned here is that sometimes it's better to cut your losses and throw shit away or something. Anyway hope she enjoys it.

I was going to suggest GX1000 as it's more Apex level, but Gx1400 does the same job.

One or the other, probably not both. In fact, if the road tyres are a guide to the intended use, you probably don't need either.

GX1400 has the removable spider so I can swap it out for a 40t for commuting duties.

Finally pulled my finger out and added mudguards to the bouncy beer machine. SBC cycles drilled the fork, and I used a Fender Flute for the front.

As does the Boost version of GX1000. There's nowt wrong with having the tarty hollow cranks, but less minted people can have direct mount chainrings too 😃

It's gonna get one and possibly the other for sure, starting off with a narrow wide chainring. On a test ride yesterday the chain was dropping off which was probably due to a combination of a 8 speed chain and the really worn out 9 speed chainring. I don't think the chain is too long, might be though, gotta double check.

Those tires will certainly keep you from floating away.

Back on the big ones after 3 months on SMW (thank god).

I love those tyres actually. They're usually on my spare XTR wheelset and go on my Obed when I feel like playing around in the city.

I'm gonna get some Big Apples for the Haro thing posted above, so I can fit a mudguard in the back too.

How do you rate the vagabond? Ive toyed with buying the frame to replace my nature boy disc with gears

I really like it. Obviously it's not the most inspiring ride nor is it in any way light. Yet I find it fun both on trails and road. I actually think it can be pretty fast once you get it up to speed. Depending on tyres obv.

If you haven't tried the Apple (or Big Ben or Super Moto X for that matter) the diff will be night and day in weight.

Had a look at this frameset today, hoping to pick it up and build with the mix of sram
Red/force 22 I have and some Chinese carbon tubs. Could be fun. Legor cicli 61x59cm Columbus max frame and 3t fork.

Never tried 'em but am gonna get a pair for my girl. I can live with the weight penalty cause of the grip the Hookworms have, which is amazing. I bought them instead of the Super Motos because a bike shop which was going out of business had the heavily (no pun intended) discounted.

Just finished building this up with a mix of sram and shimano from the parts bin. Just needs a longer stem and to cut steerer. Owes me the grand some of £45 so far.
