It's a Brooks Swift that has been trimmed a little bit on the edge (I think).

This is my first build at the moment, im waiting on wheels from mitre tester, need to buy some mks syvlan pedals with double toe straps, miche 44T ring (or anyone got any good places to get a steel 144bcd 1/8th ring?) velox bartape, a bar end brake lever, 57mm drop front caliper, and vittoria randonneur rear tyre (got a rubino for the front) also got a white gold finger lever i might sell depending on how i get on with the bullhorns and whether i buy risers . . .
looks very nice so far, i really like the frame. what cranks are those?

there kind of custom cranks :) they are SR Suntour cyclone, polished to a mirror finish (thus removing the annodise and alas the logo) but i wasnt sure about them to begin with but now i think they fit in perfectly! -

that look fantastic so far mate, the Brooks saddle is perfect on that frame (track bike of the past tend to have those saddle, so nothing more fitting than the Brooks!).
Ebay can be the best place for a chainring, I found a gorgeous Campangolo one for only £40, I also got an Miche Advanced chainring I can sell to you for only £25, very light too and has little wear, it's a bit modern looking thought but netherless work very well.
48t thought, but put in an 19t rear and you'll get a good amount of skid patches that'll prolong your tyres life a bit.
be careful with the Randonneur rear, as because it's an 28c, it might not fit on the back wheel, so wait till you got your wheel from mitre tester, put in a 23c and see if there's enough space for a 28c.
Thanks for the Kind words ed, i appreciate them, the advice is very useful as well! how long does an average chainring last you? im a bit worried about life, but i suppose the more teeth the less wear so. . . :) if aluminium chain rings have a good *long life *i will try and source a nice campy one! still not sure what brake to get, black or silver? silver i get more choice . . . need to get a new headset sometime, the bearings are screwed (il overhaul it first for the time being)and then il try and pick up an old campy super record as i love them to bits! what tyre do you suggest if the Randonneur doesnt fit?
Thanks

oh and i have to do a bit of show boating here :D ive spent about 5 hours polishing the bar and stem to a perfect mirror finish, the stem had quite a few scratches so i started with caustic soda for the annodise then sanding with 250 grit (shocking i know) then went straight to 1200 which took a very long time to get a good finish, then extremly lightly with 0000 grade steel wool and then autosol, for the bars, i only did the center ferule; i took a drill and polishing bit and used polishing compound to remove the annodise after i failed with caustic in a spot so i thought i would try with that, worked great, no need to sand them then finished with autosol :) they all look great now and i think the time i spent was worth it! (stem about 4 1/2 hours and the bars 30 mins, definatley worth getting the polishing bit and compound)

nice polishing, you will have tape on the bars no?
tyres- schwalbe marathon plus come in 25 and so do panaracer ribmo's which are both very good.

Thanks for the advice Aleksi, and yes the bars will be taped (they are quite scratched and i fancy some Velox tape to try out)
-
• #10784

-
• #10785

thanks fresh :) this will be my first fixed, im riding a 10 speed Poyner around 1975 i think, its a beauty to ride :) what are you riding? -
• #10799
I dont intend to turn this bike into a fixie, probably should of mentioned. All i wanted was some suggestions for parts to make the bike slightly more reliable.
You did not make your orginal question very clear. Do you have any ideas what you're trying to acheive? Period style restoration or just make it rideable. Also what particular parts are you after? What do you feels needs to be changed?
mate, do what ya like to it....please yourself, trying to please the whinging pommy bastards on this forum is impossible
Whats the point of trying to "please" anyone here?
I do apologise, try Gatorskins, they're reasonably cheap and try and find them with free inner tube - save you like £4 each, and you be surprise how many people change a nice bike into this;
THE most monumental massacre of puppies...WAC. How on earth did I miss this. Has this been in anti-porn?
