  • guys, anybody have a spare rear hollow axle for joytech/on-one track hubs mkii?!
    did they even make hollow axles?!

    i wanted to switch out the axles on both types, but learned the hard way the bearings dont sit on the same position on each hub, so the axles are not interchangable..

  • Yeap I have one. What's wrong with the original one?

    Novatec A165/A166 and clones (including Mk1 On-One) come with hollow axles, that BLB hub is a Formula not a Novatec

    BDOP is probably the easiest source for spare Novatec axles

  • Annoyingly i find the reach to long with a layback

    I built with a campag post/turbo, cinelli stem/drops first and it just looked a bit naff

  • I think I've managed to find the only possible Kryptonite D lock attachment configuration that's compatible with my compact triangle bicycle. Inner thigh clearance is tight, heel clearance even tighter but absolutely fine. Also tour-compatible as it doesn't snag with rack or pannier.

  • I had thought of that but the bracket is nice and secure so no bouncing around, and I want to free up as much luggage space as possible for touring. (That's the main time I'll carry a lock on a regular basis, since the rest of the time the bike's mainly used for out-and-back rides from home.) And the weight being slightly further forward might be an advantage once there's more luggage on the back. I'll hopefully have a loaded test ride on Sunday and report back.

  • I have a question for you folk if I may; I have an old italian road bike frame (casati) upon which the paintwork is a shot. I can leave well enough alone and ignore (purist option) but I have another idea.

    See attached pic/below for ref - the chrome elements on the frame seem to run under the painted bits and I can see (what looks like) chromed metal through some of the chips in the paint....

    Is there a chrome baby under all this shot paintwork? and if so could I paint-strip back to a chrome frame underneath? or am I simply wrong about all this and the chromed bits are only in certain places.

  • Does anybody remember (and, preferably, have a pic of) a bike with Zipp 101-wheels that was featured on, well, I think it must have been back when theradavist was prolly -- it was shot in the desert (or something), with the light catching in the shiny (toroidal) rim surface?

  • I'm not the best authority on this but I know that some old bikes were chromed all over the frames.

    Whether or not the chromed surface underneath is as shiny as the stays is variable. I think on most cases where it is as shiny is for cromovelato type 'paintwork' where the frame is chrome plated all over and then has tinted clear coat applied to it. I'm fairly sure that this frame is not that (google cromovelato).

    Often the chroming underneath the painted areas is duller than the on show sections.

    Hope it's "show" chrome underneath the paint.
    I stripped an Olagnero, only to find that the chrome was not to the same standard all over.
    The rear triangle (which was originally on show) was much brighter than the chrome on the rest of the frame: the original preparation wasn't the same, so there was nothing that could be done about it.

    It was tried on here on a somec with a less than desirable outcome.

  • Likely there is chrome under the paint, but it's not for show: the initial preparation isn't as thorough, so it will look rough and can't be polished up.

  • Its possible the chrome ends a little way under the paint too.

  • So was about to install a jagwire elite shift Kit on my CDF but stupidly just realised that there are no barrel adjusters in the headtube stops, I will definitely need these right, or am I missing something? Also should I install the chain before the cables?

    That would be brilliant in a CX race. Lower the barriers when you get to them, and then raise them again for anybody chasing you.
