Picked up this bullshit felt today for 35£, my thought is to weld on a lot of threadings and building Racks and use it as a ghetto touring bike.

Nope, aluminium. :(
Pretty much decided that I'll be getting sandpaper on it sometime soon though - I've been politely ignoring it for 7 years now so it's about time... -

thinking XTR.
Get 520, don't you remember it's a beater?

They look smart too Ed. Noticeable difference compared to the Fulcrums?

Wider = more comfortable, but performance wise, it's usually hard to tell unless you spend over a grand on Zipp wheels.
Biggest performance difference is usually yourself, rather than the bike.

Hm that's unusual, hopefully just surface corrosion, but would look in the tubes (if you can) just to be sure there's nothing inside.
If there's a welding hole see what it looks like, perhaps nice salty sea air or road salt left a "gift..." Nice bikes in any case ^_^
Gears have their uses slogging up a hill with a load :p

Nice (as are all Mercian)
Would investigate good cantis, perhaps go modern, as I found Salmon Brakepads work really well on my vintage canti but eat rims like it's nobodies business in the wet. Soft pads + grime = nom nom nom rim

Absolutely nothing more I can do this now to make it faster. New frame time?

Have you considered training :-)

It's just oxidation, ugly but harmless on aluminium. It will sit on the surface.
-
• #103112
That's an absolute last resort

• #103113
there is no such thing as fast frame, it is not a fucking type of car. give up this time trialling shit.
-
• #103114
Er right ok

Does anyone have a droopy selle smp that they don't need? Want I test out the shape before commuting to purchase...
-
• #103116
This had been my assumption - thanks.
(back in denial again - what bubbling paint?)
-
• #103117
Omg, it looks gorgeous on black wheels.
-
• #103118
How much rim wear is too much? This much?
-
• #103119
I have an smp pro?
-
• #103120
You'll know it needs replacing when you can see the inner tube through it. Until then youre fine
-
• #103121
Your bike? Probably ok for a bit longer.
Customer's bike? Definitely needs changing about 2-3 months ago.
-
• #103122
Yes.
(is that the answer you wanted?)
-
• #103123
Nice project. I like the first version, I think that the trispoke is really too much for this bike.
