The head tube has a bit of a problem on this frame. I don't think it's because it's French (French threaded bb, original forks, which were not useable were French threaded) I experimented with cups from French headsets and there was no difference really... Headset cups fitting is quite loose especially the top one. I used plumber's tape, which allow me to secure the bottom cup ok (it actually had to be pressed in with the tape on...) But there's only so much take you can add acc the top cup just sits there and is removable by hand with no effort. Any quick fix to this problem? (Something like beer can fix or cheap/easy like that, without requiring frame builder intervention, since it's only a beater after all...)

Wasn't Brooks mandatory back in the days on conversions?
That's all I had in stock at home... May try to find something else as I don't disagree with you. -

A good friend of mine (and ex Bullitt messenger) has an Omnium with hub gearing and loves it. He had a stab/waterproof bag made for the front with handles/straps for passenger security made. It's the balls.

A nice strip of beer can around the cup will solve it, wooden board on top of it and smack it right it, check if it is alligned, smack it some more, done. I took my shiming abilities on next level when I discovered aluminum glue tape.

'2007' managed 20 miles first proper ride last night on balki. Now featuring tifosi bb (sob). Running 28s is v.nice.
The shopping list is always growing: French thread lockrings, 3/32 19T sprocket, italian bb lockring, loctite, silver seatpost inline, new wider rims 32H about 595mm erd, pedal washers, ofmega dustcaps, nicer tyres.. bloody hell I'm gonna stop typing now.

Yeah I will put a narrower chain once I get the lockrings and sprockets.. ugh!
-
• #102320
How wide is the chainring? Out of curiosity; why are you opting for 3/32?

This arrived today! All-City Nature Boy Disc.
It will be a fun, functional fixed... somewhere in between my Brooklyn and my Straggler. Wide rims, big tyres, risers, rack, disc brakes!
I'm pretty excited. As soon as my Surly fixed/disc hubs arrive I'll get it built.
