  • make the frame unusable

Isn't a big crack in the seattube enough?

Seriously though, I guess that chopping the seatstays is probably the safest place to disable a frame and make it look like you've really trashed it.... Then you can get it all welded up nicely

    e.g. from this

    to this

Option 2 is to photoshop a chopped frame (e.g. change the colours on my photo above) and see if you get away with it

Also bear in mind that sharing dastardly schemes on the worldwide web may also affect your warranty and I'd hate to encourage dishonesty - even against a great corporate swallower/diluter/destroyer of legendary brands (bontrager, lemond, fisher)

  • fair play though, you haven't spat your dummy, last time i stuck someone's post count up they bore a grudge!

    666...

  • Isn't a big crack in the seattube enough?

no, the bike must be cut in a way that it's either irreparable or would cost a lots more to repair than a new frame:

  • Thanks, I knew there was another...

    Bastards

  • Thanks guys, yeah Rik you are right about the dishonesty thing. I think it's pretty awesome of Trek that they still give me a replacement for a Gary Fisher frame after 10 years.
The thing is that I don't really like Trek so I have a hard time saying goodbye to my GF..

  • It's alloy, right? So it's kinda unfixable anyway.

    salsify them

    Oh er

  • I think it's pretty awesome of Trek

This is true... maybe the best bet is to do what they ask of you, get the replacement frame, flog it and buy something you'll actually want to ride

  • My rat to big for me is finished

The 650 dal is ready for my exibition the 7 June in Moncontour de Bretagne.

don't put it to anti please...

  • Preferred it with double shamals...

    I think that was? B-)

  • The Dale is awesome Gaston!

  • What is the deal with all these seat posts. I presume they're the same one?

  • If it's anything like my old Gary Fisher rig (cracked), the ID of the seat tube only matches the seat post above the top tube, i.e. the post is only in contact with the frame for the short bit of seat tube above the top tube.

Kinda obvious why they all cracked really. Yours is later than mine so I'd be surprised if they hadn't learned from their mistakes and fixed it, but you never know.

  • Shimano 5800 on my race bike, really happy with how good it shifts.

  • have 3 Nitto 66 for my long legs to be more like the TT position

  • As I have pretty much reduced my bikes to only Dosnoventa now, I am trying to find an frameset for a commuter - it should take 35mm tires with mudguards, it should have track ends. I would like something visually good looking, not interested in Pompino. I like Nature Boy and Genesis Day One, where can I find them reasonably priced? Interested in used too. sizes 55-57.

  • ^^ that position looks hella illegal

  • testride done, will fix gears and brakes this weekend.. and yeah front tyre is temporary :)

  • hat position looks hella illegal

Don't look at the seat tube, look at the BB. Or maybe look at where the line of the seat tube is relative to the BB

  • Just finished this today, rides well.

New cages and maybe wheels in the coming months

  • So this is a long standing project that became a momentarily finished project before rapidly becoming a WTF project. I posted 2 years ago about a first road project where I resurrected a TF Road Rocket frame with a seat post stuck in it http://www.lfgss.com/comments/9650252/. Took me that long to figure out what I wanted, but got there in the end. So...resprayed the frame and got replacement decals sorted...then layered a die-cut print over the top of the base coat and lurked in the What Groupset? thread to work out the options. Was happy with the result. HOWEVER...first test ride...changing up to the bigger ring on the front and one of my cable guides seems to have cracked under the pressure and nearly fell off. Can't believe it.. simplest thing yet so much impact. This bike has almost been a lesson in why to ride fixed. Any suggestions for a solution here or where to go? Re-welding clearly an option but having just sorted the paint it feels like a massive kick in the nuts...can't think of any other option though. Thoughts gents?
