  • i made dahl today; its the second time i've done it well and about the 4th times ever. Its so good and cheap I go through phases of not remembering to make it then I'm super pleased when i do.
and its vegan- not that that matters to me :)

  • Lovely bit of pan-fried haddock last night, olive oil and butter, bit of seasoning, skin side down then 30 seconds on the other side, absolutely lush, tasted rich and deep like egg yolk, served with sugar-snap peas tossed in sea salt.

    9/10

  • negril on brixton hill for dindins. if you live in the endz and you've not been there yet, do yourself a favour and punch yourself in the throat - saves me the trouble.

  • ^absolutley YES!

  • This place is the dogs down belows. Shame it's in Nottingham. Went today for the first time in at least a decade. A proper deli, who have always taken sandwiches seriously. Walked in and nothing has changed. Same family owners. Forgotten about them, but instantly familiar. Still doing the same fillings. Had the ciabatta with turkey, halloumi, salsa and mayonnaise. I discovered halloumi there when I once patronised them often. A perfect sandwich, and a lovely experience.

Negril is simply incredible. I have been back several times since being introduced to it by Tibbs

  • Have you had one of the festival things? Kind of like churros, but savory apparently.

Fuck me sideways, I went there for lunch today too.
    Spicy Bacon/ Halloumi Salad.

Yea I think so. Me and Spybot shared the whole chicken platter which came with it. It was amazing

  • Need to know this ASAP - good place to eat in Clapham Common? (unexpected plan with a girl tomorrow thurs).

O rly?... Many decent places... depends on the budget and cuisine required. £££/quality/value is pretty hit and miss in Clapham

  • any good one, any!

  • The sausage man

is that the same company as the stall in angel?

  • any good one, any!

    REALLY good.
Was slightly expensive when I went as was with me ex and had red and sparkling. Knock off the £20 wine and you're looking at starter and main or main and dessert for £50iiiish for 2 as far as I can remember.
If you call to book, ask for garden table ;)

  • Bodeans

  • Ed, there's plenty of places on clapham high st, up by clapham common end.
Nice deli/restaurant called Esca, Breads Etc, which is a great place to do all day brunch/breakfast, or on Venn st which is the road that the clapham picturehouse is on there's a couple of restaurants, Rapscallion where I used to go an do brunch on a Saturday morning, small and cosy, or a couple of doors down there's a traditional French place called Gastro.
Any of those should sort you out..

  • If you want to wow her a bit - Trinity.
But take your credit card and don't wear your cycling gear. Might not get a table now.

Or good tip from Corny on Venn St.

If you want cheap and cheerful Thai, The Pepper Tree is quite good, but you'll be squished in next to strangers.

  • excellent stuff corny, that'll do just fine, thank again, just needed somewhere to have dinner in the evening.

    olly, don't worry, i don't dress like a nodder.

  • :-)

  • How To Peel a Head of Garlic in Less Than 10 Seconds - YouTube

Does this work with really fresh, new garlic? It would seem to work only with garlic that isn't very fresh. :)

  • Cool. Just need to get 2 massive bowls now.

I prefer the stronger, older garlic, less 'green' tasting.

  • Have you tried wet garlic?

  • Heck yeah, you can eat that stuff like sweets. Very smelly sweets.

  • I love garlic, but you get so much low-quality garlic. Fresh garlic is just a revelation. Garlic is my favourite taste bar none.
