  • Well, I'll try and reschedule my birthday for you ;-)

I think my favorite birthday pizza combination was spinach, roasted garlic, black beans, olive oil and sliced roasted potatoes. Sounds odd, but it was great.

  • It's a good combination, with different kinds of veg. I just did a lovely, gently fried sliced new potato/garlic/leek/pea/wakame dish yesterday, which is not so dissimilar in ingredients from your pizza combination.

  • Right so I'm cooking tommorow night to impress... for the main I'm probably going to do a warm scallop salad (with fennel and chorizo), though any other suggestions appreciated.

However I'm unsure about pudding, I was going to do chocolate brownies with my trademark Horlicks Ice-cream, but my folks have my ice-cream maker. Any ideas for a good chocolate based pudding?

I just linked this http://leitesculinaria.com/7675/recipes-portuguese-pork-with-clams.html on the i love thread :D
Also, theres some awesome deserts there, custard tarts are lovely from what I hear (I cant eat them cos im allergic to eggs)

  • There is an awesome Nigel Slater chocolate pot recipe which is a wheat-free cake with Nutella in the middle. You bake it in the oven and the nutella becomes liquid (and fking hot!). I'll try to find a link

  • for the second day in a row i've been working on doughnuts. it's really not very hard, just a simple dough recipe the trick seems to be shaping the dough and the temp of the oil. temp of the oil is a serious killer and pretty hard to control without a thermometer.
either way they've turned out pretty good.

photo does not to them justice

  • Well done, they do look good enough to eat :@

  • Fuck me, just tucked into a tub of Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Macadamia. LISH!

  • I used to love B&J's half baked.

  • yo vegans. would you guys ever eat these?

they're £2 each and you can microwave them in 2 mins, or otherwise stick them in the oven for 15.

    They look pretty good actually.

  • Looks good to me. do you deliver? I have the plague.

  • I don't think I've seen stuff by Forest Foods before, but I may be wrong. There are now so many companies doing that sort of stuff that it's hard to keep track. I often try foods like this, although the bulk of my cooking is from fresh.

  • I never buy food to heat up, actually - it would be better if they were ready to eat, and you could buy them from sandwich counters in supermarkets. My main problem as a vegan is picking up a sandwich for a train ride or whatever. Away from home I live on a largely hummous based diet :(

  • yeah, don't get my wrong dude, i'm not the worlds biggest ready meal/mocrowavable foods fan. but if you're going to eat it, i think it's cool that you can buy decent ish quality from a decent ish company

After reading this I felt the need to purchase a hefty tub of said ice cream and consume it all by myself last night after 4 cans of beer, I justified this to myself by swimming before hand, and the fact that I had cycled 8 miles that day (not a lot I know, but more than my usual daily average of 4-6).

i figure you can just eat them cold if you want?

Have you moved to London yet? You can get vegan stuff pretty much all over London if you know where/how to forage. Many shops have vegetable samosas. I'd recommend a bag of samosas on a long journey, too, by the way.

  • 1st September. Yeah, the M&S vegetable samosa is a staple! God bless Indian food.

  • Speaking of marks and sparks, they do a butternut squash curry that you microwave to steam. It's really nice, and not so bad for you.

  • Argentian Cup of Rump (picanha), cooked whole on the barbecue with a crunchy, salty, fat out side layer. Rare of course. Yumm

  • w.o.w.

  • Nice one maxcrowe. If you live in Hackney I know where you can get it and I can let you know a few tips on how to cook it.
