  • Sounds good - are they reusable or do you need a new one each time?

They're reusable. My parents bought me a pack, and I scoffed at them. They're actually really good though, and the resulting toastie is on a par with one made 'properly'. I recommend them.

  • breakfast club is bizarrely overrated and massivley oversubscribed. i find it's popularity baffling. every saturday morning there's a queue of trendies down the street when there's equal and better food, service and atmosphere to be had all around. who the fuck queues up for 20 minutes to eat an everage breakfast in a crowded cafe? is it the 80s film referencing name and ironic 80s album covers tacked to the walls? honestly? I think it is. whatever.

same sort of thing with ottolenghi, although the food is actually lush in there i can't imagine ever standing outside in that scrum of bugaboos and saturday guardians waiting for half an hour to get scrambled eggs on toast. it's just nuts. get a grip people.

I found the the amount of people that seemded to be locals (or not, as we were, tourists) to be incredibly life affirming. that i don't need to do things like this every sunday to gain acceptance was lovely. Its easy to get drawn into 'fashion' and 'scenes' but to see it from my priveledged viewpoint (i was on high table - pun) and to be able to witness the queue of people outside looking in was all i needed to convince me not to spend the following day shoe shopping but instead to wnader about, look at buildings and drink espresso and read books. I am over going out for breakfast. thats why we live in houses not hotels isn't it.

(at one point, i asked a waiter if there was a toilet and he just said yes and walked off. It was like a comedy sketch.)

I like the sound of these :)

    Shall investigate further.

  • haha. good work n3lson!

  • I have died and went to vegan heaven.
Last night I had a wet Tempe burrito with all the fixings and two fer one frozen margaritas.
The day before it was brunch with tofu scrample, roasted veg, sourdough toast, home made guacamole and unlimited mimosas.
Mikey and I will be going out for breakfast again today, but he sleeps late so I've placated myself with ice cream sandwiches in bed while i wait.

  • Oh so jealous.

Bringing snacks back to bed when I've got up early is not deemed acceptable practice in my house.

Now that I've got back to a full size kitchen with a full size fridge, I'm going to get back to cooking stews at least a full day before I plan to serve them. In the meantime, I need a pasta sauce recipe that involves runner beans, this won't be easy.

  • Well, when you go on holiday to hang out with your younger, less responsible mates, you do what you like.
I can't fucking wait for soup season.

pish and posh! missus and i have just sat through first two seasons of madmen - waking up at three in the morning just to have a fag and a tumbler full of scotch is making these long winter nights just fly by.

I can't fucking wait for soup season.

    Wait?

    WTf are you doing?

    It's always fucking soup season.

  • Whoa whoa...

    Ice cream sandwich?

  • Whoa whoa...

there's newsgroups for people like you, and this isn't it, sunshine.

  • pish and posh! missus and i have just sat through first two seasons of madmen - waking up at three in the morning just to have a fag and a tumbler full of scotch is making these long winter nights just fly by.

That sort of thing would be fine, minus the smoking as neither of us do. However, coming back to bed with a pint of coffee and a full English at 6am doesn't sit well when she's trying to get an extra hour's sleep.

  • It might be in london, but it's been 30 degrees in NYC, which means beach and ice cream.

    Not soup.

  • Balki- it's good. So muchso I had two. I might have a peanut buttercreme brownie in a bit...

  • It might be in london, but it's been 30 degrees in NYC, which means beach and ice cream.

    Not soup.

    Gazpacho among many chilled soups.

There's also never a bad time for Miso or any of the asian fragrant soups.

    B-, must try harder.

  • But what is it? Like, ice-cream, in bread?

  • Whoa whoa...

    Ice cream sandwich?

    These are so good....................

  • Mother of god...

  • But what is it? Like, ice-cream, in bread?

so feckin awesome that I'd say you haven't lived until you tried one, condensed milk on top with some nuts, lovely.

  • Tell me that is sweetened condensed milk.

  • Oh... Wow.

  • It sure is and it could straight go into the "epic win" thread.
